Tests conducted by VN.ai revealed that the AI video‑generation model Seedance 2.5 from ByteDance blocks around 80% of requests that include copyrighted material, and all attempts to generate videos from protected images failed.

The tests, published by Deadline, showed clear improvement compared to the previous version, Seedance 2.0, which faced criticism in Hollywood after clips mimicking protected characters and works went viral, including a scene featuring Tom Cruise and Brad Pitt.

Despite the improvements, researchers were still able to produce a clip of the character Oscar from the film Shark Tale without mentioning the character’s name or the studio, indicating that protection gaps still exist.

ByteDance stated that it is continuously developing protection measures aimed at preventing unauthorized use of intellectual property, while the tests showed that protection may be weaker when using third‑party APIs.
