Master of Prints

Master of Prints In pursuit of those details and textures, David took a different path to those of his peers, one that celebrated the image makers he had come to know.

Fine art archival printing for photographers & creatives
with Master Printer, David Hobbs
- Past print alchemist & contemporary imaging technician
- Digital file collaborator
- Image custodian While completing his commercial photography qualifications in the early 90s, David Hobbs loved and connected with the process of image making, increasingly spending more time in the darkroom than behind a

camera ... it was here, in these quiet spaces filled with alchemical processing that he was able to find details and texture in the prints that others didn't always see. In collaboration, David has produced prints that are full of depth, detail and a sense of magic. His path led him to Adelaide's leading photographic imaging labs where he has continued to collaborate with photographers and artists, elevating their images since the mid 90s. Having spent the last 15 years at arguably, Australia's premier photo imaging lab, he has cast his eye and alchemical hand over thousands of prints from photographic novices to Master Photographers and from commercial photographers to photographic artists. David's process is meticulous and defined by a genuine love for image making. He is the custodian of images and a guide towards an elevated materialisation of each photographer's vision.

2020 bought changes for many; a year that marked a new direction in this Master Printer’s path … perched high above the city, now in Adelaide's beautiful Epworth building, you will find David Hobbs, with no flashy displays or unnecessary bells and whistles - just a Master Printer and his specialised tools. Drawing on his past photographic processing knowledge and his love for contemporary photographic imaging technology, he works with Epson large format printers, including the new Epson SureColour P9560, to produce museum quality, fine art archival prints. David will be the custodian of your images; bringing details to your shadows, texture to your highlights and vibrancy to your hues. David Hobbs - Master Printer

I am very excited to share my results from the Australian Photographic and Videography prize which was judged over the weekend.
I was the winner of 3 categories including, Portrait Single Capture, Portrait Print and Print Photographer of the Year 2023.

This was certainly quite overwhelming and I feel very honoured given the calibre of the work in the competition! Absolutely Inspirational!! Congratulations to all of those who entered and to the successful finalists and winners of categories.

A huge thank you to the APP team for the incredible achievement of making the event possible. Congratulations Robyn Campbell, Karen Alsop and Kris Anderson. I know that there are many others who worked hard to make it possible! Thank you to the incredibly talented judges, volunteers and the Melbourne Photography Studies College.

It was such a wonderful audience and I am really appreciative for the love and support I received. So wonderful to connect with so many photographers whose work has inspired me! A big thank you to David Hobbs from Master of Prints in Adelaide for printing my image beautifully.

Finally, thank you to the sponsers who kindly donated the amazing prizes. Thank you to Kayell and Godox, Global Image Products and Epson for my Print Photographer of the Year prize!! So incredibly grateful!

Just finished printing this exhibition for Scott Hicks.
From 35mm to 5"x4" film, all scanned, artworked and printed in direct collaboration.
I was privileged to learn first hand of the stories shared by Scott accompanying these images , all of which give an otherwise elusive insight into his world and amazing walk.
Extraordinary images allow for extraordinary prints.

I’ve always enjoyed black and white imagery – from my pre-teen fascination with brass rubbing in English churches, and experimentation with lino cuts, through to ...
