After spending time overseas, Amelia dropped into the studio to update her headshots—and what a an absolute pleasure it was to have her back in front of the camera.
And can we just take a moment for that glorious hair? 😍 One does not simply photograph hair this beautiful without adding a little backlight. It deserved its own spotlight!
One of my favourite things about creating headshots is moving beyond the idea that every background has to be plain black, white, or a single solid colour. While there's absolutely a place for clean, simple backgrounds, sometimes adding a few softly defocused lights, beautiful textured fabrics, or subtle layers can create atmosphere, warmth, and just the right touch of drama.
The goal isn't distraction—it's context. A thoughtfully layered background helps tell your story while keeping you as the hero of the image.
