LOCOTMOTIVE 3801 | The Legend of Steam Returns to Canberra

What an incredible weekend for railway enthusiasts and photographers, with the iconic Locomotive 3801 making its long awaited return to Canberra.

Organised by Transport Heritage NSW in partnership with the Canberra Railway Museum, this was a very special visit, marking 3801’s first journey to the Nation’s Capital since 2002.

There is something truly special about seeing this magnificent piece of Australian railway history in steam. The sound, the smoke, the smell and the sheer presence of 3801 brought back a glimpse of an era when steam locomotives were such an important part of our transport history.

I was fortunate enough to get out with the camera and capture some of the action of the weekend and I’ve put together a couple of photos and video from the visit.

🚂 3801 | A Legend Back in Canberra

What a sight this morning! The magnificent 3801 steam locomotive rolled into Canberra, bringing a wonderful piece of Australian railway history with it.

There’s something special about seeing this iconic machine in steam the power, sound, smoke and unmistakable presence of a locomotive that has truly stood the test of time.

A true piece of living history, still turning heads and creating memories more than 80 years after first taking to the rails.

Old Stable / Farm Store - Crookwell, NSW area (Private Property)

Standing quietly in the Australian countryside, this old stone shed has witnessed generations come and go. A night beneath the setting Milky Way, it becomes part of something timeless where history, rugged country and the incredible night sky come together in one magical moment.

Old Homestead - Crookwell, NSW (Private Property)

A gorgeous old homestead nestled amongst the countryside, sitting beneath some truly amazing dark skies.

There’s something special about old buildings like this weathered by time, full of character, and seemingly just waiting to be loved and photographed.

On this night, the setting Milky Way provided the perfect backdrop, rising above the old homestead and creating a scene that was simply too good not to capture.

A little piece of country NSW, frozen in time beneath the stars.

Yes I'm watching you....... Scarlett Robin.

Just one of those mornings

This little Scarlet Robin had me completely mesmerised. Full of attitude and absolutely unwilling to sit still for more than a second, he certainly made me work for the shot.

But I like to think that, for this brief moment, we both paused, taking in the beauty of the surrounds before he was off again. Sometimes nature has a way of reminding us to slow down, even if only for a heartbeat.

When Canberra delivers a sunrise like this over Lake Burley Griffin, it’s impossible not to stop, admire the view and appreciate this amazing city we call home.

Nature never ceases to amaze

A recent visit to Namadgi National Park showcased some of Australia's beautiful birdlife.

With its diverse landscapes and abundant wildlife, Namadgi is a paradise for birdwatchers, photographers, and anyone who enjoys spending time in nature.

Which image is your favourite, the Scarlet Robin on the seed head, the Flame Robin on the weathered log, or the Galahs in flight?

A miniature World - Tidbinbilla Nature Reserve

Hidden gem of the forest floor. Tiny in size, enormous in detail.
Natures's beauty is all round us, sometimes we just need to slow down enough to see it.
