Goodfellas is kicking off Byron Bay Outdoor Cinema season at Grow. Feed. Educate. Give back and they’re not exactly keeping things low-key.

The spring program opens with Scorsese’s gangster classic on September 24, with the whole night built around the film: think spaghetti, martinis, live jazz and Goodfellas on the big screen under the stars.

From there, Byron Bay Outdoor Cinema rolls into a full spring season with Interstellar, a Halloween screening of The Rocky Horror Picture Show, and Amélieclosing things out in November.

If you’re planning to make a season of it, the $195 Spring Pass includes premium entry to all four outdoor cinema nights.

After years as Balcony Bar & Oyster Co, one of Byron’s most recognisable venues is entering a whole new era.

The Jonson Street institution is officially evolving into Balcony Bar & Oyster Co. Byron Bay marking a much bigger shift than a simple name or menu change. The new direction moves Balcony away from being defined primarily as Byron’s oyster bar and into a broader Coastal Italian identity.

Leading the food direction is Executive Chef Stefano Farese, with a new menu leaning further into Italian-style social eating: aperitivo and smaller plates, fresh pasta, seafood and dishes designed for the table. But don’t worry, the oysters aren’t going anywhere and will remain on the menu.

The drinks list is getting a rethink too. Bar Manager Josh has developed Balcony’s signature cocktails so they can also be ordered as considered non-alcoholic versions, rather than separating them off onto a traditional mocktail menu, making the experience feel the same whether you’re drinking alcohol or not.

For a venue that has occupied one of the most prominent corners in the centre of town for years, it’s a significant reinvention, but not a total departure. Keeping the seafood, social atmosphere and long-afternoon energy it’s known for, while giving the whole thing a much broader identity.

Byron’s getting a new three-day festival this November and the lineup is stacked.

Taking over Red Devils Park from November 27–29, Byron Wellness Festival is bringing together live music, yoga, movement, sound healing, ceremony, workshops and late-night festival energy in one big weekend. And this isn’t just a wellness retreat with a playlist in the background, Boy & Bear Yaima and Kim Churchill are leading the music program, joined by Samuel J, Finojet, Kyle Lionhart, Cinnamon Sun, Sacred Earth, Dubarray and more.

Boy & Bear will perform a rare stripped-back acoustic set, while Kim Churchill brings the kind of live show that’s taken him from Bluesfest to Glastonbury, and YAIMA will close out the weekend with their immersive conscious-music sound. As the sun goes down, the festival shifts from yoga mats and workshops into full live-music mode.

During the day, the program moves through yoga, breathwork, sound baths, ceremony, movement and talks, with practitioners including Tanya Alijani, Christian Dimarco, Dominique Livkamal and more. There’s also a sauna, massage tent, psychic readers and healers, a wellness market, food trucks and a dedicated kids’ program.

The whole thing lands somewhere between music festival, wellness retreat with morning yoga, sound healing in the afternoon, then barefoot dancing once the sun goes down. it doesn’t get more Byron than that.

The almost 300-acre Tyagarah property that hosted Bluesfest Byron Bay more than a decade has officially hit the market, marking another pretty major end point in the festival’s story.

The land itself is owned separately from the Bluesfest companies that collapsed, through an entity associated with Peter Noble, and had been leased to the festival business. That distinction matters now, with Bluesfest leaving behind more than $10 million in debts to creditors while the site itself is being sold.

The site spans six titles and includes three residences, The Green Room, offices, a large shed and established event infrastructure. It can be sold as a whole, individually or in different combinations, with expressions of interest closing October 8 unless sold prior.

For a place that became so closely tied to Easter in Byron, it’s a pretty symbolic sale, and what happens to the site next could be just as interesting as what happened there before.

We recently caught up with Katie from Saint Helena - Cafe and Cooking School Byron Bay a little slice of Europe tucked into the heart of Byron Bay.

Tucked just off Fletcher Street, Saint Helena brings a proper European feel to the middle of town, with fresh baguettes and French pastries, pistachio tiramisu, Basque cheesecake with caramel sauce, handmade focaccia, organic local coffee and hot chocolate all in the mix. The whole menu leans into the flavours of Italy and France, with everything made fresh daily.

There’s more happening here than just the café, too. Saint Helena also runs hands-on cooking experiences, including fresh pasta-making and Italian cooking classes, adding another layer to what Katie has created in the space.

You’ll find Saint Helena at 9/8 Fletcher Street, Byron Bay, open daily from 7am–5pm.

Live music, riverside drinks and rescue puppies, Father’s Day plans don’t get much better.

This Sunday, 6 September, Wharf River Club returns to Wharf Bar & Restaurant with a free live show from Pink Zinc, plenty of good food and cold drinks, and some very special guests from Northern Rivers Animal Services.

The monthly event series has already raised almost $100,000 for local charities, with this edition supporting NRAS and the important work it does for animals across the Northern Rivers. Bookings are recommended.

Tweed Regional Museum is turning Queensland Road in Murwillumbah into one huge free street party this Saturday.

From 3–8pm, the street will close to traffic and come alive with live music, food trucks, art, creative workshops, roving performers, family activities and a silent disco.

There’s also The Light Within, a large-scale immersive installation featuring 16 glowing “secret garden” structures that will transform the precinct after dark.

Add in a full main-stage lineup and Tweed Regional Museum open late, and there’s plenty happening from afternoon into the evening.

Saturday 5 September, 3–8pm on Queensland Road, Murwillumbah. Free entry.

The rumours can finally stop, Totti's has officially confirmed it’s coming to Byron Bay.

The cult Sydney Italian will open at 111–115 Jonson Street, transforming the former Cheeky Monkey’s site on the Browning Street corner opposite Mercato. One of Byron’s rowdiest old nightlife addresses is about to get a serious Italian glow-up.

Known for its signature wood-fired bread, antipasti, handmade pasta, charcoal cooking, spritzes and long lunches, Totti’s will form part of a new Merivale dining precinct alongside Jimmy’s Falafel.

There’s no confirmed opening date yet, but the announcement is official. We’ll share more as it lands.
