Shout out to Blank Slate Hooper Rio for dropping a personal best 9 3pt makes & 42pts in a hard fought W over the weekend. Rio is a regular in our 8 Week Shooting Programs & gets heaps of work in on the Dr.Dish shooting machine.
Young players will have ebbs and flows with their shooting as they navigate growth spurts and all that comes with growing up. Getting regular reps reinforces form and shooting in high volume situations gives players the ability to recognise patterns in their makes and misses.
Misses allow the coach/player the opportunity to work out where in the shot things can be improved and worked on.
Makes allow the coach/player to identify repeatable patterns which in turn can be practiced over and over to develop that muscle memory with the end goal being to shoot without having to think.
Players only decision in those moments is to consider is this a good shot to take or is it the right time to take this shot.
The difference in knowing you can make the shot and not hoping you can make the shot is such an empowering thing for a player - at any level.
A lot of successful shooters have great footwork and a lot of the work is done before the player gets the ball or the shot is released.
