Ok so clearly I have a soft spot for this one…

But is it my favourite? No…
But do I love it? Yes!
Does it make me feel kinda warm and happy inside?

Yes it does… ✨🪾🖤

I feel an uplifting sweetness when I look at it. Those tiny cute Tasmanian birds, all covered in sparkles and starlight.

The dark skies, the patterns made by the elegant branches, illuminated and shimmering, surrounded by drifting orbs of light.

It’s full of innocence and joy but is not without a darkness. Something I too find beautiful.

So yes I love it, but I love so many of my works. Not with a proud vanity but with a real warmth and generosity. After spending many hours with each one, building and shaping them into life and wondering if they will emerge as I have imagined them.

Then there is each collection, built at different stages of my journey, exploring different themes and techniques. Knowing that my subject or style may shift but all of my work is tied together with the concept of nature, and how it offers us all the fuel and fire for any kind of magic or myth we may be seeking in our days.

I tie it together around a thread I name Tasmanian Nature Mythic, sometimes leaning heavily into the myth, most evident in my Deadwood collection. But even my traditional landscapes possess an enchantment, a window into the dream state.

So as people who come into the studio share with me their favourites and ask me about mine, I think it’s time I shared that with you all here.

And I know that list will be growing as my new Tasmanian Still Life collection takes shape. I’ve already got favourites and I’m not even done yet. Can’t wait to share those one’s too!

‘Down by the Ol’ Copper Kettle’

A peek of this work framed and hanging in its new home over in NSW and some BTS shots to show you how the work progresses from setting the scene at the shoot, to the editing room and finally to printing and proofing.

And the final moment, when it’s hanging in a gallery or in someone’s home, I love seeing how my work settles into a living space and becomes a part of its new owner. A reflection of personality and expression.

Could you see beautiful still life and this cute little wombat sharing your home?

The work in this size (42x60) comes in an edition of 8 (+2AP’s) and is part of my Tasmanian Still Life collection.

This body of work will be exhibited in September when I will unveil the full collection, but I’m sharing a few early releases with you guys now and some lucky collectors won’t have to wait until September to buy one.

You can also view this work framed as part of the ‘Winter Collection’, a group exhibition of 8 local artists from Tasmania’s Huon Valley. It’s a really pretty curation so worth a look if you’re in the area.
