Moths have developed what scientists describe as a "stealth cloak," making them nearly invisible to bats' senses.

In this little recording taken at 5.48 am during a spring lockdown in 2021 you can hear some wind under the trees, some birds, and some light traffic. Every hour of the day you can find sound wherever you may be, some profound, some mundane, but really it all comes down to how you listen, and when it comes to recording and editing, how you capture, and what you decide to do with that sound.

If sound is of interest to you, then tomorrow night and for 3 consecutive Wednesday nights in April, I will be doing a deep dive into the world of sound, listening, editing, and recording!

You don't really need much to participate, and all who attend will be getting a bunch of sounds of mine that you can play around with at home.

These 4 workshops will be one-of-a-kind workshops, and the only workshops I will be offering of this kind in the foreseeable future, as most of my time these days is taken up working on sound for vision projects , like Oliver Stone's 'JFK Revisited' (2021) which has some field recordings of mine buried deep within in the edit.

Actually, if you have watched the documentary and listened carefully you might recognize the sound of Hazelwood Power Station detonations in the footage of bombs being dropped over Vietnam!

So if you are interested in sound and what you can do with sound, now is your chance to learn more about it!

Zoom was accidental but kindoff like how it portrays the morning sun.

Added bonus was seeing the moon still peaking through the sky.

Researchers at Eindhoven University used 12 high-speed cameras, six pressure plates, and 2,176 microphone to determine for the first time the mystery of the humming bird's remarkable wing sound.

One of the outcomes of the research is the possibility of making quieter drones, airplane rotors, vacumn cleaners and laptop fans:

Research at Eindhoven University of Technology have been observing how hummingbirds hum—and it could make computers quieter

Scientists have found that American Green Tree Frog lungs act like noise cancelling headphones, enabling them to better listen in to potential mates!

The "cocktail party effect" - struggling to hear someone speaking over background noise can be a massive problem for frogs who primarily use their voices to attract a mate. At breeding site wetlands, calling frogs have to compete with other frog species and environmental noise like other animals, weather conditions and roads.

Female American Green Tree Frogs can inflate their lungs, which help them tune into the frequency of the calls of potential mates. Inflated lungs reduce the way the eardrums respond to other sounds, making the male Green Tree Frogs sound clearer.

The research was led by Norman Lee from St Olaf College in Minnesota. It was published in the March Issue of Current Biology, which is available to all. Find it on the Current Biology website or at https://www.cell.com/action/showPdf?pii=S0960-9822%2821%2900113-5

"When the female attempts to leave, we think the male is trying to say 'baby, it's dangerous outside. Stay here with me!'"

When a female lyrebird tries to leave a male courting her, he pretends there's a predator around and mimics a "mobbing flock" alarm in what appears to be an attempt to scare her into staying with him, researchers say.
