What do you do when you can’t be there… for whatever the reason?

My world of armchair sports photography… it’s that moment when you are glued to the screen of your favourite event and that passion for capturing the moment overtakes and you find yourself trying to find the magic shutter speed that works with the tv’s flicker rate… it feels kinda crazy but the results are kinda cool.

Seems that I’m not the only one who can’t help taking photos of the screen with photos from the World Cup gaining traction. And you know what, sometimes you just can’t be there.

Anyway, this does make me grateful for everytime I can be there with an accreditation and appreciation for the photographers who are working hard to capture the moments live and work they do to share them, and very grateful for the extraordinary camera work and commitment to coverage to bring the world these truly inspiring events onto our screens.

A small collection here from Marathon World Majors from Kipchoge to Sawe and Assefa to Hassan… that time we watched Ben race the World Cup in Poland to Hamilton’s first race in Ferrari, and the Paris Olympics and Armand Duplantis breaking the pole vault world record, again…

Here’s to creativity and sharing the world of sport.

It’s time. Let’s go, let’s do this šŸ˜Ž

My favourite week of the year is on. Packing today and out the door tomorrow to Perth for 777 Marathon - Perth > Adelaide > Melbourne > Hobart > Sydney home Friday night for Gold Coast Marathon half on Saturday and marathon on Sunday.

What makes it special, you, all the friends going to see and cheer as you smash your goals, all the new friends going to meet along the way.

To all the 777 runners, can’t wait to see you tomorrow, everyone running GC Marathon - enjoy your taper week and see you on course.

Put a hand up in the comments if you’re running so I can keep an eye out for you and share and tag a friend who’s running so I can keep an eye out for them!

Let the fun begin… see you on a course šŸ˜ŽšŸ‘Š

Go one more.
Burn the ships.
You didn’t come this far to come this far.

It’s taper week, so the work is behind you now and it’s time to get amped for the big day.

The finish line is in sight, and I can promise you, crossing it, getting the distance done, and having that wave of emotion hit is a feeling like no other.

It’s why being on the finish line is so addictive as a photographer.

Hour after hour, this wave of humanity breaks across it. Relief, pride, pain, joy, disbelief. It is hard to find that wall of emotion anywhere else.

But…

What if you have come this far, only to come this far?

Yeah, I’m talking about that pain point that deep down you know might be a stress fracture. That ligament hanging on for dear life from the ankle roll. That hip flexor you can tell is going to call it a day at 28.64km. That knee with three rolls of kinesio tape holding it together.

I could go on, but you get it.

The hype tells you to push on.
The vibe tells you not to be weak.
The reels keep saying go one more.

This morning, I’m offering a different view.

There are times when the decisions that make us feel weakest are actually the decisions that make us strongest.

Sometimes the right next step is to let the body repair.

Because the uncomfortable reality is this: ignoring an injury does not stop the body stopping. The body will stop if it has to, and when it does, it often takes a bigger toll on the running journey than making the hard call early.

There will be other events.

I promise.

And you can go into them stronger, healthier and better prepared.

Use the disappointment as fuel. Let it build your resilience and your determination to keep running, not just to finish one race.

So, if you have to make the tough call, it’s OK.

Get down to the event anyway. Find your friends and training buddies. Encourage them. Cheer at the top of your lungs for strangers.

They will appreciate it more than you know.

Let your recovery happen.

Fight another day.

Smarter always goes further than harder.

I’m proud of you.

Keep being awesome, and I’ll see you out there — on or around the run.

Sometimes a pause is all we need.

To step out of the noise, even just for a moment.

To let some air in and give your mind a bit of room.

Don’t overcomplicate it.

Just walk.

Breathing follows.

And that helps.

Get up. Get out. Get it done.

This platform drives me absolutely nuts… so, challenge accepted.

A set of photos I loved barely moved.

It’s clear that Instagram is not rewarding ā€œgreat imagesā€ in the way perhaps I thought it once did. It seems clear that every bump in followers is followed by a slow trickle of losing them again, making growth feel painstakingly slow.

That is certainly one way of looking at it…

What if there is another though?

What if I’ve actually just been lazy, perhaps even entitled enough to think reach and growth should happen without doing the work?

Perhaps I need to face an uncomfortable truth. There has never been a business, a brand, a community, or anything that matters that thrived without building and then sustaining connection with people.

So challenge accepted.

I’m not going to rage against the machine, I’m going to work it out.

I’m not going to lead with divisive statements. I’m not going to rage bait. I’m not going to drop hot takes or let AI take over and run my thoughts.

I am going to celebrate achievements and effort. I am going to encourage. I am going to strive to help you rise, because that is why TSLR exists.

Today, if you’re reading this, thanks. I’m super glad you’re here. And I have a simple message.

Don’t let that hard thing you are working on go.

Work it out.

And no matter what, be proud of yourself.

It’s one week till the 2026 Bravehearts 777 Marathon starts.

The nerves have arrived, which makes no sense ’cause I love this.

But the brain still starts doing its thing… every single time.

Will I get the shots?
Should I take the tripod?
Will my bags be overweight?
What am I doing?

And that voice telling myself not to be nervous… yeah, that doesn’t get listened to.

I’ve learned over the years that the nerves are just part of it. If I look back, I rarely got nervous for things that didn’t matter.

The nerves tell me this matters.

I know they are there because I care about getting it right.

I also know that once it starts, the nerves will vanish. I’ll see friends made through this journey. I’ll meet people who will become friends as the week rolls on. There will be amazing people who show up to do something special, the moments will happen, and I’ll find my pace.

And yes, most likely I’ll forget to hydrate and cramp like crazy at least one night.

And through all the nerves, something special will be created.

That’s just the way it happens.

To everyone taking on 777 next week, you’re awesome.

See you on course.

There are always plenty of reasons not to go.

Today… there were none that stacked up.

It was a hot winter’s day on the coast today. It’s not meant to be this hot. It’s 2 weeks out from Gold Coast Marathon weekend. It’s been a big lead up to the point where rest feels right. There is plenty going on outside the run, so more sleep was a real option.

With my run done before the sun even thought about getting up, I got the camera out and followed my boy through his Sunday long run. He got it done.

It’s hard to beat that.

It’s the quiet before the storm… the energy is building, the nerves are growing, you’re wondering if you’re ready… stay the course, back yourself, no last minute cramming - it’s not an exam… just get out there and enjoy your runs… 1 week 777 Marathon, 2 weeks Gold Coast Marathon

You got this šŸ˜ŽšŸ‘Š

When we elevate others, when we help someone rise, we elevate ourselves and reach new heights.

I saw a post this week from an established photographer that said ā€˜if you take photos like xy&z they are not good photos and you are not a photographer’, and you know what… it stung a little and I just found myself wondering - why do you need to say that?

And so this morning I wanted to share a different voice, I want to share to everyone having a go, trying to find your way, trying to learn and improve, trying to do something hard. You got this, starting, trying, learning, improving, navigating an unclear path is the only way, please look past the voices that feel like they are trying to bring you down, because there are people and voices and actions that will lift you up.

This is part of the why I love the world of running so very much, because yes there are personal achievements, but bigger than that is the real world stories of people taking on hard things with no certainty of the outcome to be achieved, and what is also so very true is the people who get behind those goals and help others rise, who encourage and send energy to take the next step no matter what.

My message - you’ve got this, keep going listen to the voices cheering for you, they are there. And if you are one of the people doing the cheering, thank-you, you’re awesome šŸ‘Š

šŸ“ø a few photos from UTA that spoke to me of people helping people rise.

Be proud of yourself. That’s all today.
