The Humpback Highway

Here is a collection of images from the past couple of weeks that were taken off Terrigal of the Humpback Whales northern migration.
All these pics were taken onboard Terrigal Ocean Tours with my old mate Skipper Jones .

Pacific Emerald Dove (Chalcophaps longirostris )

Conservation Status Least Concern.

The Emerald Dove has become a bit of a rarity at Holgate . I use to see them quite regularly years ago but over the last 10 years I have rarely seen them at all.
This was a great surprise when I looked out the window and seen this female Emerald Dove feeding in our rainforest garden.

Plum Heads

Plum-headed Finch (Emblema modestum) feeding on Panic grass seed .

Another one of Australia’s magnificent Finches the Plum-headed finch , although listed as least concern they are in quite low numbers in the Hunter Valley and I only know of them in one location.
The positive thing is that they have had a successful breeding season as quite a few juveniles have been observed.

How amazing is the colouration of this Humpback, this pic was taken on Monday 8th just off Terrigal .

High-flyer

Here is my favourite image out of a 20 image sequence that was taken yesterday 3/6/26 of a large Humpback Whale breaching off Terrigal NSW .

This time of the year I am fortunate enough to spend quite a bit of time with Skipper Jones of Terrigal Ocean Tours photographing the Northern and Southern Humpback Whale migration.

The Bateau Bay Swifties

This is a perfect example of a mature male Swift Parrot he’s colouration is beautiful.
It was a very overcast day with little available light so I was happy to get this image.
