Is anyone else sick of AI content slop? Let's get back to the real!
This is a photo I took while working in Sydney a few months ago. Yeah, it's not Ipswich. But it's a real snapshot in time of a real place.

What do you say we stop posting and sharing AI crap? In fact, feel free to share something real with me in the comments. Show me a real photo, video, drawing, piece of music, your lunch, or even a limerick.

Heaven knows we need more real in this world.

My newspaper photography origin story was that I cold emailed someone at The Satellite newspaper and asked if they wanted someone to shoot sports photographs for them. At that time that's what I loved to do, and I spent the weekends shooting images at various sporting events wearing a shirt that said Goodshot Photography and sold prints to people who wanted them.

I randomly had to log into an unused email account this week and came across the email that started it all. Sent on June 10, 2005.

A few things spring to mind... How terrible is my writing/spelling? And what about the nerve of the guy asking a newspaper legend like Yvonne Gardiner "Why is this so?" Who the hell did I think I was???!!

Turns out, Yvonne replied, and the weekend freelance gig at sports venues turned into social events, and then a cadetship at the Queensland Times which ended 13 years later as the last photographer the paper ever employed.

What should you take away from this? Make that call. Send that email. Ask that question. Even if you can barely string three words together and kinda come off as a t**t. Because you never know where it might lead.

"McMahon's Soft Drinks; The flavours you were brought up with, now caring for the ones you love" - Peter McMahon

Here's a little video story about the McMahon's soft drink legacy.

In conjunction with Cooks Soft Drinks, they are once again making the old bubbly drinks with the famous Frank McMahon recipe, helping raise money to care for those in need at Ipswich Hospice Care.

Check out the link below to order your favourite beverages in time for Christmas (Dec 7 deadline for Xmas).

You can now also purchase a 9-pack of your favourite flavours instead of the whole carton if money's too tight to mention.

Instead of a pair of Y-Fronts, why not get granddad or Aunty Beryl a few of their favourite fizzy bubblech and let them chew your ear off about the good old days this Christmas.

I'm in need of some advice from this great community. Since my boy Shane from Charlie's Barber Shop has moved on, I haven't been able to bring myself to go somewhere else for a haircut. And I need one!

I'm looking for local recommendations. Preferably a more traditional place. No need for fades, tracks, scars in the eyebrow, foot massages or expensive hair pate.

I'd love some proper guidance please.

Thank you

EDIT: I need to get this done today and the new guy at Charlie's isn't open. Otherwise, I'd give him a shot.

I've never been one for self promotion. And while this podcast is Ipswich Today chatting with me. This is more me plugging his excellent work, and suggesting you get on and subscribe and follow his work in all the places.

WARNING: I do drop an F-Bomb and my ramblings are often incoherent. But feel free to have a listen about how I got into this career and hear about what I'm doing now. I've never been on the other side of the questions before, and Allan didn't send the questions beforehand.

A little hint. I now run Vidcom Digital Media, which focuses more on corporate video.

But enough of me. Go and give Ipswich Today a follow and a listen to the podcast that is all about Ipswich.

Five years ago the presses rolled for the last time on the print edition of the Queensland Times. Popular chief photographer and former postman Rob Williams was one of many made redundant across more than 100 News Corp mastheads. Rob joins the show to reflect on the forced changes to his career and reveals what shaped his interest in photography at an early age. Content note: For parents listening with young children there's one instance of coarse language.
