The Trulli of Alberobello are native to the Puglia region of southern Italy.

They were originally designed in the 15th century as a brilliant tax evasion scheme. Because they were built entirely out of dry stone without any mortar, the locals could quickly dismantle them whenever the royal tax collector came to town.

Today, it's a UNESCO World Heritage site and easily one of the most magical places to wander through.

Cathedral Basilica of Maria Santissima della Madia - Monopoli

I've never been so awestruck by a cathedral before.

Contruction began in 1107. In 1117, construction halted because the church ran out of roof timber. According to local legend, a raft carrying a sacred Byzantine icon of the Virgin Mary miraculously floated into Monopoli's harbor on December 16. The raft's massive logs were used to finish the roof.

It's an Italian national monument and I highly recommend a visit if in Monopoli to see the incredible marble inlays and stunning architecture
