when you just need to escape into your personal fairytale for a moment…✨

staying at honestly felt like such an escape. the cottage is perfectly tucked into the bush, birdsong all around you; but only a short drive from Hobart (which is convenient if you can’t decide if this is a city or a nature vacay)

my favourite things about this stay:
🌿 being surrounded by lush, green bush and all the birdsong
🍿 your own private outdoor theatre in a converted shed, complete with cozy blankets and popcorn
🍋‍🟩 orchards and cideries just down the road (yum!)
🧺 breakfast delivered to your door in the cutest basket of goodness hanging from a hook for you in the morning

🍁 home.

It’s been a few years since I’ve seen snow fall from the sky and I was missing it, so although we didn’t get the epic views that the Icefields Parkway is known for, this was still a really good day! Thanks for the parting gift, Alberta. 🩵 (and thanks to my bestie for spending the day driving me through a snowstorm just so I could have an un-sightseeing day in the mountains)

I grew up in Canada, where winter looks quite a bit different than it does here in South Australia. Rosy cheeks, heaps of snow, hot chocolate by the fire, ice skating, tobogganing…these are the things I still associate with the season and I kind of miss that whole vibe sometimes. ❄️

We might not have the snow, or the ice skating, here in but there’s still a lot to celebrate about winter - and the Encore series of events have been a lot of fun to explore! The Winter Fire Festival at Tintara even offers up a few of my favourites - mulled wine and bonfires! Also, live music, homemade soup, strings of lanterns, more mulled wine (or hot chocolate!), market stalls - it’s a super cute pop up event and the perfect excuse to rug up and get cozy next to the fire (July 21/22 only though!) 🔥

Should you spend the extra $$$ to book a private boat tour in El Nido instead of joining a group tour??

It does depend a bit on what you want out of the tour and if you’re trying to stick to a strict budget, but the answer is almost always going to be “YES!”

If you’re travelling solo and looking to meet some new friends, or you want to save some cash then absolutely, joining a group tour is going to be your best option.

But if you want the flexibility to leave earlier in the AM so you can hit all the best spots before anyone else shows up, to change up your itinerary as you feel like, or visit spots no one else on a group tour is going to see, then booking a private boat is definitely the way to go! We also got to pick and choose where we stopped for photos and spent way too long flying our drone around - defs not a luxury you’ll have on a regular tour!

✨ never forget that the earth delights to feel your bare feet and the winds long to play with your hair ✨

winter is my favourite season for exploring the walking trails around . Earth blanketed in every shade of green; moody, misty mornings and crisp sunny days; the soft afternoon pastels that dapple trees and paint the sky before the sun sinks below the horizon.

Here’s a few of my fave spots to get outside and connect with nature:

🌿 Willunga Basin Trail - newly opened and covers a huge variety of landscapes from red coastal cliffs, undulating vineyards of the vale, and up into the hills and thick bush around Kangarilla. It’s 130km in total, but broken into 11 sections that you can do as half day hikes. (📸 1&2)

🌿 Onkaparinga National Park - bet you didn’t know we had dramatic gorges like this around here!? The park is also one of the last remaining pockets of remnant vegetation south of Adelaide, and you’ll find yourself sharing the trails with koalas, kangaroos, and echidnas just to name a few. (📸 3&4)

🌿 Shiraz Trail - following an old rail line, this one is mostly flat and paved so it makes for a great accessible walk, or easy cycle, through the vineyards. (you can hire bikes from the McLaren Vale Visitors Centre!) Stop at some of the cellar doors along the way to fill up on food or quench your thirst. (📸 5&6)

Tag your outdoor adventures with and to share your favourite spots in the region. Don’t forget to follow to discover even more of what the Vale and Coast has to offer.

Textures of the Hawaiian coastline.

I couldn’t decide which of these shots I liked better - lower to the ground or up high to take in the surroundings.

Which one is your fave? Give me your vote in the comments - 1 or 2 👇🏼

In case you hadn’t heard, Hawaii is freakin’ stunning.

We didn’t even bother to search out the popular photo spots around Oahu - we had only rented a car for a couple of days and wanted to spend them exploring and being spontaneous, instead of beholden to any schedule or having to wait for a break in the crowds to get « the shot. »

Did it mean we ended up lost and at dead ends sometimes, spending time backtracking to pick up on a main road again? Well, yes.

But it also meant empty beaches and endless vistas of palm trees. Island-fresh snacks from fruit stands in the middle of nowhere. And that happy feeling of discovery, not knowing what to expect around the next bend in the road, and stumbling upon views like this, without a single other person in sight.

Happy World Turtle Day 🐢

Fun fact about sea turtles - female turtles return to the same beach they hatched from in order to nest, and use the Earth’s magnetic field like a “map” to guide them back. Other than nesting, most sea turtles will never return to shore again - EXCEPT in Hawaii where they’re known to climb up on beaches and sun themselves during the day!

Have you ever experienced the magic of swimming with these gentle creatures? It’s one of the most incredible experiences, and I couldn’t believe how many turtles there were in the waters around Hawaii.

If you do encounter them in the water, make sure you give them plenty of space - at least 10 feet / 3m (it’s the law in Hawaii but just respectful in general, you’re in their habitat not the other way around) - and if you keep your distance, stay calm, and don’t chase them they are incredibly curious! I found they would just swim around me in circles while I floated on the surface, and we just hung out for ages watching each other and swimming together.
