I thought it was probably time to introduce myself for all the newer faces around here, but I thought Iâd also share a little bit about how Em Louise Photography all began.
Sounds a little clichĂ©, but one day I woke up, was about to head off to my cleaning job and just had this thought pop into my head⊠âI really want to do photography.â
Iâd always loved photography, but Iâd never really thought about actually turning it into a business. So, I decided to give it a go!
I messaged Karin, who used to do photography around here (Karin Gethin Photography) and who had actually taken so many precious photos for me over the years, and asked if she happened to have an old camera she wasnât using anymore that she might want to sell.
I didnât have the money to pay for it all straight away, but she was kind enough to let me pay it off. She then packed it up and sent it all the way over to me from Tasmania!
I bought the cheapest lens that was recommended to me, the good old ânifty fifty and from there I spent countless hours watching YouTube tutorials, Googling everything I could think of and teaching myself as I went.
I was also lucky enough to have Karin helping me along the way, giving me tips and advice about photography, editing, lighting and all the little things I was trying to figure out. So appreciative of all the help I got!
I practised A LOT. Iâm pretty sure my kids were sick of me constantly taking their photos đ And at one point, I even made my sister stand to the side pretending to be pregnant so I could practise maternity photos⊠hahaha!
I eventually put some photos of my girls up on my personal page and, from there, I started getting messages from people wanting me to take photos for them.
And the rest, as they say, is history! đ„°
Somehow, that little thought on the way to my cleaning job turned into 11 years of Em Louise Photography.
These days, when Iâm not behind the camera, I also work part-time at Elders Real Estate. Iâve lived in Merredin for 20 years this September, and Iâm also Mum to my two beautiful girls, Ruby, 14 and Hayley, 11. So between work, photography and kids life is usually pretty full on!
Over the years Iâve been so lucky to photograph families, weddings, newborns, babies and so many special moments. One of my favourite things is getting to see families come back over the years and watching their little ones grow.
So, if youâre new around here, thatâs a little bit about me and how this crazy little photography journey started. Also a reminder that if you have your heart set on something you can absolutely make it happen.
Thank you for following along, supporting my business and trusting me to capture your special moments. đ€
