One of my favourite photos was taken just before we left the farm. This lady is one of the gems of our little community. Pat is 90 years old and still runs our local post office. She is the epitome of her generation … hard working, kind, resilient, consistent, and patient. She runs the post office like clock work even though technology has dramatically changed the way that Australia Post have done things over the years. In a tiny country town, people like this really are a pillar of the community. Not only running a business that is the heart beat of the town, but also active in the local CWA, and Anzac Day parade. I still remember a time when I came into the post office with a young child (or two) walking beside me and a newborn in my arms and I was struggling to manage whatever I was trying to send in the mail and beautiful Pat said “would you like me to hold your baby?”. I’m grateful for her kindness. I am going to miss this woman, that little town and the community we were in so very much. People like this are one in a million.
