"Word of mouth gets someone to check you out. It doesn't get them through the door by itself.

A lot of referral-built businesses believe this without saying it out loud: 'my clients already come from word of mouth, so my Instagram doesn't really matter.' But a referral doesn't skip the checking-out step — it just guarantees there is one.

If the page doesn't match the trust that got someone there, the referral quietly dies at that step. The person who sent them never finds out why.

This studio's own client base came entirely through word of mouth too, and there's still a full brand system behind it. Referrals get you found. The page decides if that's enough.

Ever looked someone up the second a friend recommended them? Comment "ME TOO" below."

A brand doesn’t start with a colour palette. It starts with listening.

Here’s a small peek at how a project actually comes together, from scattered notes to something you can hold.

Nothing flashy. Just the process, one step at a time.

5 Newcastle spots I’m pretty sure you haven’t tried yet.

Not because they’re impossible to find.

Not because we’re pretending to be the first people to know about them.

But because Newcastle has plenty of places worth paying attention to beyond the usual lists.

This New Groove Map edit is for the spots we’d actually send you to — for coffee, dinner, slow afternoons, casual catch-ups, and those days when you want somewhere good without spending 40 minutes scrolling.

Save this for the next time you’re deciding where to go.

If you stop by any of these, let them know you found them through New Groove.

Got one we missed? Comment your favourite Newcastle spot, we're always adding to the Map.

POV: someone loved your café once, and then forgot to come back.

Not because the coffee was bad. Not because the welcome was off. Just because life got busy, and nothing reminded them the place was there.

That's where your page matters.

Brew Tales already had the drinks and the feeling nailed. New Groove helped make sure the brand stuck in people's minds long after they'd left.

Comment "BREW" and we'll send you the full story.

The mistake no one talks about when word of mouth is your main strategy: people still check you before they choose you.

A friend mentions your business.

They open your Instagram.

They scroll for a minute.

Before they visit, message, book, or ask a single question, they’ve already formed an impression of your business.

That’s the moment that matters.

Word of mouth gets people curious.

Your Instagram is what helps turn that curiosity into confidence.

One client put it simply:

“It’s brought in way more enquiries than before.”

Same business. Same reputation.

The difference was that their online presence finally reflected the experience people had in real life.

Comment "CASE" and we'll send you the full breakdown via DM.

What working with local businesses has taught us about being recognised online: being good is not always enough if people can’t tell it’s you.

A lot of business owners say some version of this:

“We know we’re good, but you’d never guess it from our Instagram.”

And that is usually the real issue.

It is rarely about posting more, chasing trends, or suddenly becoming a content creator.

It is that when your page does not look, sound, or feel like your actual business, people scroll past without registering that it is you, even if they have already walked through your door.

Here’s a quick test:

Cover your business name on your last five posts.

Could a stranger still tell they came from your business?

If not, the answer might not be more content. It might be a clearer, more recognisable system.

Comment “CLEAR” if your last five posts still feel like you, or “MESSY” if they don’t.

Before someone visits, books, orders, or messages you, they usually check your Instagram first.

Within a few seconds, they’re already deciding whether your business feels clear, trustworthy, and worth choosing.

Take a look at your last nine posts.

Do they feel like the same business people experience in real life?

Your page doesn’t need to be perfect. It needs to make people feel sure about choosing you.

We're not trying to be the loudest studio in Newcastle. We're trying to be the most loved one.

Since COVID, it's become easier to forget what's right around the corner, the café that remembers your order, the pub with the best Thursday nights, the local businesses that make this city feel like home.

New Groove exists to help good local businesses look and sound as good as they actually are, while helping more people discover them.

What local Newcastle business do you think deserves more attention? Tag them in the comments.
