Check this out. Look what I found while trying out some new software for my scanner. These images are part of a strip of negatives that I acquired as part of an antique collection.

The 35mm negatives were in an old film canister, with lots of scratches and fading. With the help of a good scan, editing and utilising Adobe Fyerfly software I was surprised at how well they turned. They could have been taken yesterday.

A lovely surprise, and fun to bring a little bit of history to life again.

A good friend and fan of my piano pics, purchased the first print of the limited edition of the piano print I posted last week, and requested a another to match. So I have created another piano pic with the same aged and rustic finish.

And this time it comes with a story in the form of a poem.

The old Piano

Warn and forgotten the old piano stood
In a field to decay like old chopping wood
It’s once mighty legs now lean to one side
Her elegant top split and twisted aside

Defiant she stands in the heat of the sun
In a field of long grass trying hard to hold on.

Once cherished and loved for her glorious sound
The pianos past gifts were to rapturous crowds
Her keys now yellow and falling about
Her pedals all gone and her strings rusted out

But for one last time the attention is hers
A subject of joy, as a new song is heard
An image of gold and gleaming light
Her silhouette now shares a new visual sight.

What was old is now new again
Once forgotten reborn
As she takes up her place as a picture adorned
Her final performance once more beckons delight
As a moment of gold frozen forever in light.

Here's a little something creative and different. I love the old and rustic, and an old piano in the middle of a field is fantastic to me. I have had a play and aged the image with a technique I developed a few years ago. I think it adds some dignity and presence to the image.

Like a final performace with an audience of two, an old piano stands tortured and the weathered by life.

Sometimes life feels like there are precious few who stick around and enjoy the music you still create. Just know it's never to late for a flurish of courage, to sing a new song and write a new symphony. Take all that life experience that has left you weathered and worn, the scars and faded panels, the dull out of tune keys and write a symphony for the ages. You never know it might just be your best work yet.

A gentle sunrise at Busselton Jetty. Low cloud hovered over Geographe Bay letting just a little sunlight through to start the day. Just love the aqua blue and the highlights on the jetty sheds.

Canal Rocks from above. A late afternoon shot of Canal Rocks set against the deep colours of the Indian Ocean. I love the swirling white water patterns and the subtle late afternoon light that adds dimension to the image.

Just when you think the night is a bust. A subtle sunset glow escapes through a break in the clouds reflecting on the river mouth at Margaret River. A lovely subdued moment before storm clouds enveloped the coast. The wonders of the Southwest.
