It's pushing to the tail end of Milky Way season, and after having done no Astro this year it was time to head out.
Dark skies, a New Moon and a Milky Way that sat low on the horizon provided a great opportunity to capture this moment. Although not entirely happy with the shot i think it turned out ok. Still a lot of composition-post processing work that can be done, but it's always a struggle taking these images late at night due to the partnership of camping and beverages.

As the sun was setting in the west, a distant storm created the perfect opportunity for some lightning shots. Storms are so much better when viewed over a flat and vast countryside.
