Kandanga State School Hosts Annual Koala Habitat Tree Planting Day
I was delighted to join Koala Action Gympie Region (KAGR) at Kandanga State School this morning for the school's annual tree planting day, where everyone received a very special welcome from Camila the Koala, who was peeking out from the gum leaves as students, teachers and visitors arrived.
Representing the Koala Action Gympie Region group were President Sara, Vice President Michelle, volunteer Jinene (me), and renowned local horticulturalist Carl, whose extensive knowledge of koala-friendly tree species was greatly appreciated throughout the morning.
With enthusiastic support from the students and teachers, approximately 80 trees of various koala-friendly species were planted to further enhance the school's thriving koala habitat. It was a wonderful community effort, with everyone pitching in to make light work of the task. In just a couple of hours, the planting was complete—just in time for a well-earned lunch!
I understand that Koala Action Gympie Region received a community grant from Gympie Regional Council to support this habitat planting - thanks for providing the grant that made this important environmental project possible! Initiatives like these play a vital role in creating and protecting safe habitat for our precious koala population for generations to come.
Every tree planted today is another step towards a brighter future for our local wildlife. 🐨💚
