In 2021, Elyse Hudson joined the WA All Abilities Wheelchair Football League as a player and started photographing it from day one.

The league gave her friends and opened doors she didn’t expect.

In 2023, she was there when Ryan Zilioli became the first wheelchair user to officiate a match in the league. She captured it.

Now she’s still there, sharing those stories as widely as she can.

This year marks 10 years since the first Wheelchair AFL National Championship.

New sport alert!

No heated rivalry here, just some ice cold plays.

Ok I'm on thin ice here.

I'll stop.

I crashed the first game of the season for the Garden Island Pirates Para Ice Hockey Club and had an awesome time. If you thought ice hockey was intense, wait til you see these guys. Add in a metal sled, lower yourself closer to the blades and have at it.

Really keen to get back out there to shoot more of this sport. The logistics change my shooting methods and I really want to figure out the best angles and timings.

Next time I will wear a jumper though.

The Wheelchair AFL grand final offered all of the thrills you'd come to expect. Big hits, chases and plenty of passion, punctuated with an upset win! Congratulations to all who played and strutted their stuff this season.

Thanks for having me - it's been really fun.

It was great to photograph the final matches of Wheelchair Football, as well as cheekily take to the court in the bronze medal match. A well fought contest between the two teams that were unlucky to not make the grand final.

It was again my pleasure to travel south to Wheelchair Football and grab some snaps (and some cheeky court time) of their final round. Passions were high in the jostle for ladder positions with some stand out performances showing the growth and development of the league and its players.

Keen to get down again this weekend for the finals!

Whilst I only own 1 tripod - the GFX100ii and 110mm f/2 performs so well in low light that I broughtb it along to do some hand shooting. And whilst that did work, I eventually decided to let it play on the tripod too.

Gheez medium format photography sure is pretty 😍 - now does anyone want to buy my kidney so I can afford a 500mm lens for it?

Boop!

First time shooting a lunar eclipse and had a bit of fun on the tool again. It's been a while since I did a bit of astrophotography.

Every man and his dog was at King's Park to capture the Earth's shadow crossing the worm moon. It took a bit of fiddling around to get an alignment, but I'm pretty happy with that.

A single moment, perfectly captured. Congratulations to Elyse Hudson, winner of the inaugural Camera House Leederville Sport Image of the Year with her striking shot Eyes on the Ball. A powerful reminder of the emotion, athleticism and stories that define WA sport.

Game 2 of Wheelchair Football saw South Bunbury get their first win of the season with a very dominant performance.

Teams in the league demonstrate a broad range of ability and skills, with some players also playing in the WA All Abilities Perth League and some getting in the chair for the first time this year.

It has a very strong community feel, but also fiercely competitive. A joy to photograph and work with.
