A "feel good" story about our (mostly) wonderful caravanning community...
In June, we camped overnight at Lake Wallace, Wallerawang, near Lithgow, NSW.
Beautiful spot. (See photo)
No power.
First time there, so after arriving, we went for a walk.
The sun was shining, the lake was beautiful, but the wind was icy!
So being sookie Queenslanders who don't handle the cold, and it was too windy for a campfire, we retreated to the caravan, to read.
On our return, we greeted the couple in the nearest caravan (about 25m away) saying it was too cold for us.
Later, I noticed the same couple had their generator running.
I laughed and said to hubby "They must be cold too." as I assumed they'd turned on their air con.
I went to our car later, and noticed the gennie was still running, but it wasn't bothering us. A little later there was a knock at our door.
The lady from the caravan was there with a big plate of freshly caught, cooked fish, a little salad, and a bowl of delicious Asian dipping sauce!
She asked if we would like it for our dinner! We said yes, and invited her in for a cuppa.
They'd started the gennie to run her air fryer. Her husband had been fishing and they had more than they needed and she said they could have eaten it the next day, but fish always tasted best the day it was caught.
As we drove into the campsite earlier, a young couple with 2 small children were packing up their tent, which was erected near her caravan. The lady explained it was the young couple's first time camping, and the previous morning, he was having trouble cooking their breakfast, as the butane cylinders for their stove were frozen. So this kind lady took their food and cooked it for them in her caravan.
Meeting kind, generous people like this really confirms my faith in my fellow human beings.
Imagine if generators weren't permitted, or we had complained about hers...
The young family would have gone without breakfast, and we'd have missed out on a delicious fish dinner. 🥰
