Capturing birds a bit wider with pleasing habitat around them is not always an easy task, but when it comes together can make for some pleasing images.
The emergence of the new high quality zoom lenses has definitely helped to get more of these kinds of images. Key IMO is to still keep the bird the star of the show

• Inland Dotterel •
Not many people would expect to see a plover in the middle of the dry gibberplains, but that’s where the likes to hang out and breed. I have only ever seen this species once before at night, so I was stoked to find a few pairs one morning. They’re very skittish and usually just run away from you, but this little family posed for a few shots next to the road. Nevertheless I needed 1200mm focal length.

Such difficult birds to see and especially photograph. They live in dense clusters and usually there are many little grass stems between you and them! In this case the bird climbed on a small open grass stem between Spinifex clusters, allowing me a couple clean shots. Just posted a new YouTube video with a great giveaway!

One of the rarer in . We weren’t very lucky with the wind, so got mainly bum shots, but when these two youngsters had a little debate about who was gonna sit on top of the perch, I was able to get some shots.

One the craziest wildlife scenes I was able to witness. We were driving through the dry , when we randomly crossed a bridge and we’re presented with millions of birds in a small channel. Birds as far as the eyes could see. Totally crazy! How do they even know there’s water in the middle of nowhere?
