Ravens At Odds

Ravens At Odds Ravens At Odds specialises in film, photography & branding for the architecture & creative industries

We tell stories about architecture, people and place

Led by filmmaker and producer Nikolas Strugar, Ravens At Odds works extensively within the architecture and creative industries; telling stories through film, photography, graphic design, web development and brand strategy. We aim to work with practices and people who through their work:
– Make meaningful contribution to one or many forms of su

stainability; ecological, cultural, social, economic;
– Are engaged with the issues of housing affordability, housing diversity, or homelessness;
– Who seek to tell meaningful stories in a way that is honest and authentic;
– In an aesthetic that responds to the nature and context of each individual project, rather than commercial trends or hype

About Nikolas Strugar
My career began in architecture, before a shift into film production. It’s with intimate knowledge and understanding of architecture that I approach filmmaking, and draw upon a visual language that relates to the project. I’ve developed aesthetic sensibilities and compositional skill in several design and production fields. With this range of professional skills, Ravens At Odds has the necessary experience to produce bespoke creative solutions for your project.

DaVinci Resolve Power Grades are now available. Comment GRADE and I’ll send you the link.

This is the workflow I actually use. Two power grades, a full tutorial, and a node reference you can keep open while you work. It’s not a preset. It’s designed to be systematic and repeatable. It's a better way to colour grade

Don't hire a generic corporate photographer for your practice portraits.

I've spent 20 years working in architectural practice and producing photo and video content specifically for the architecture and design industry. I understand studio culture. I know how architects and interior designers work, think, and want to be seen.

The look isn't corporate. It's sensitive, honest, and considered. A subtle aesthetic that actually reflects the quality of your work.

If you're positioning your practice as a design leader, your content needs to speak that language too.

Recent photography for .constructions

Handover timing meant the home wasn’t furnished yet, but we worked with what we had. Unfurnished doesn’t have to mean unfinished.

If you’re waiting for everything to be perfect before you document a project, you might be missing out. Sometimes the right moment is right now.

We’ll come back once the home is settled in and do it again.

Had this on our story recently. Loved the positive feedback we received. Putting it here to see if there’s wider interest.

We’re thinking about putting together a package of the DaVinci Resolve Power Grade node trees we actually use on every production, along with a video walkthrough on how to use them and set up a proper colour managed project.

Not a LUT pack. No baked-in look. It’s the workflow template we use to build a grade systematically and repeatably, shoot to shoot.

If that sounds useful, let us know below.

Most people know us for our architecture videos. But over the years we’ve built capabilities across brand strategy, messaging, visual identity, web design, and photography.

The reason is simple: video works best when the strategic foundations are already in place. Clear positioning, considered messaging, a cohesive visual presence—these are what give content direction and purpose.

Sometimes practices need help with one piece, sometimes it’s the full scope. Either way, we approach brand and strategy with the same care, clarity and craft that define our films.

More about how we’re approaching this work on our recent blog (link in bio).

Another look at our production for Winnifred’s.

This venue is built on mood and low light, so we focused on capturing the atmosphere as it’s actually experienced, dark, intimate, and considered.

Beyond the architecture, the project extended right down to the plates, cutlery, linens and aprons. A fully considered world. Our aim was to reflect that completeness, and the quiet restraint that holds it together.

We hear this a lot from our clients: ‘We need to do more video content.’

And they’re usually right. Video is the most effective way to convey architectural work and ideas. But there’s a more fundamental question worth asking: who are you trying to reach, and what makes your work distinct in a crowded market?

When those foundations are clear, the content has direction and purpose.

More on this in our latest blog post (link in bio).

After years of making films for architects and builders, we noticed a repeating pattern.
Practices would get great video content, then struggle with how to use it effectively.
The issue wasn’t the video itself. It was that their strategic foundations weren’t quite in place. Messaging that needed clarifying, a brand presence that wasn’t fully cohesive, and uncertainty about how it all connected.
Over the last couple of years we’ve been working with some of our clients at a more strategic level, across brand strategy, messaging, visual identity, and web design. These are the foundations that make video (and everything else) actually work.
More on why we’re making this shift in the latest blog article (link in bio).
