Baby Noisy Miner rescued from a very busy road ❤️
I know it can be really tempting to want to rescue a baby bird when you see one sitting on the ground, but it’s important to remember that this is completely normal for many bird species.
When fledglings leave the nest, they usually aren’t ready to fly properly straight away. They spend some time on the ground while they learn to fly, and during this time their parents are still very much looking after them.
The parents will continue feeding them and keeping an eye on them, even though it might look like they’ve been abandoned.
This little Noisy Miner is a good example. These birds have been nesting in this area for at least the five years I’ve been around here, and this is just part of what they do.
Obviously, there are situations where a baby bird genuinely needs help. If it’s injured, or it’s in an extremely dangerous location, then stepping in might be the right thing to do.
But please don’t automatically remove every baby bird you find on the ground.
If it’s safe, leaving them where they are and allowing their parents to continue caring for them is usually the best thing you can do.
I know it can be hard to watch, and unfortunately not every baby bird will make it. That’s nature, and sometimes the best thing we can do is give wildlife the space to do what it naturally does. ❤️
