Wildlife & pet photography by passion. 🐾🌿 After many years in Asia, I returned to Australia 4 years ago and now call the Sunshine Coast home. Photography is my passion — it takes me to many places, and I’m honoured to share my images with you here. So excited to be back in Sydney, with a little time for continued education and, of course, photography! 📸✨

It’s good to be out capturing those sparkling city lights and beautiful light trails again. There’s always something magical about seeing the city come alive through the lens. ✨🌃

The Circle of Life, in One Afternoon

This afternoon, I headed to Point Arkwright after finishing an emotional end-of-life visit with a beautiful cat. This gorgeous ginger boy had been dealt a nasty disease and, despite not being that old, had reached the point where the kindest thing we could do was to relieve his suffering. Nature can be incredibly harsh.

But then, nature can also be breathtakingly beautiful.

As soon as I arrived at the point, a beautiful whale mama and her young calf decided to put on a little show, tail-slapping and playing remarkably close to the point. It went on for quite some time, and I was completely mesmerised. Pure joy.

Within the space of an hour, I witnessed the circle of life across two very different species — the sadness of one life ending, alongside the wonder of new life.

This is the way of nature — the beauty, the harshness, the beginnings and the endings — and we remain humbled by it all. To witness so much of the circle of life in such a short space of time felt pretty special. 🐋💙

A little reminder ❤️ Please read.
Many of you have been on this photography journey with me for 13 years, and I appreciate you more than you know. ❤️ This page has always been my little space to share my passion for photography and the things I love. It has always been a kind and caring space, even back in its heyday in Singapore, and that is something I’m very proud of.

Since posting about Dolly the gorgeous seal, my posts seem to have reached a much wider and different audience, and unfortunately that has brought a few trolls and unkind comments with it.
I have zero tolerance for nastiness, personal attacks or unnecessary negativity. If you don't like what I post, that's absolutely fine — just scroll on. I’m certainly not here for fame, fortune or a mountain of likes 😊 — I’m here because I love photography and hope to entertain you with it a little.
Likewise, if you disagree with something I've shared, you don't need to challenge me publicly. Those who know me know I don't make claims lightly, and I stand by what I share. I'm not easily intimidated and I'm certainly not afraid to challenge trolls, but honestly, it's unpleasant and a waste of my precious time.
I want this to remain a friendly, respectful and welcoming space. Comments that cross the line will be removed and repeat offenders blocked.

Apart from the boat incident mentioned in my previous post, this afternoon at Point A was full of wonderful sights.
The raptors flew past very close to us, several pods of whales swam by and put on a little show in the distance, and a small tree snake slithered past my feet — and right over the toe of another photographer! No photo of the snake, unfortunately; it all happened far too quickly. 🐍
And to finish it all off, a little wren sang us a beautiful song.
Spring is definitely in full swing. 🌿🐋🦅💚

Oh and btw Dolly, the little seal, has still been sighted this week along our coastline. I am keeping my eyes peeled.

If anyone knows the owners of this boat, would you please be so kind as to point out the very clear and simple regulations for watching and approaching marine mammals? They are, after all, fairly straightforward. I have attached the diagram that explains them clearly.

They approached a pod consisting of a mother and a very young calf until they were just about on top of them, with the engines running the entire time. The mother and calf changed direction and appeared to be trying to get further away from the boat, but the boat continued to follow them for a considerable length of time.

It makes me feel incredibly helpless to watch this kind of behaviour towards wildlife. There was very little I could do as it unfolded than take photographs. I share them here, in my little forum, in the hope that someone recognises the boat and can perhaps educate the people involved.

Several fellow photographers with long lenses were also photographing and filming the encounter. We were all frustrated as we watched this unfold.

Have we skipped spring and gone straight into summer? ☀️ It was such a beautiful, hot day today! The ocean looked absolutely gorgeous, as did our cute local sea turtles 🐢 and the coastal tea tree bush now in flower. 🌿🌸

Our lovely sea eagles treated us to some close flybys at Point Arkwright this afternoon. 🦅 I was only there for a short while, but I was lucky enough to capture a few shots.

There was quite a bit of squabbling going on between the sea eagles and the Osprey, and this one was always keeping a close eye on the fierce Osprey. He was ready to defend himself at a moment’s notice, talons out and all!

Unfortunately, I’m a little concerned about his left eye. It looked much bluer than the right, and he seemed to be squinting more with it. I don’t believe it was his nictitating membrane, as I can see that clearly in the corner of his eye in some of the other shots. I really hope he’s okay and that his eye improves soon. ❤️

I have to admit, I’m hoping the local wildlife can stop being sick or injured for a little while too. 😅 It makes me feel like I’m permanently in vet mode, when photography is supposed to be my switch-off, chill-out time. I love watching these beautiful creatures without worrying about whether they’re okay.

Fingers crossed this little guy is doing better soon. 💙

Little Dolly has left ‘her’ rocks in Coolum. 🦭💛 I hope she has the strength to make it all the way home. Maybe she’ll take a little break in another lucky coastal town on the way back to NZ. 🌊🇳🇿
Now it’s back to staring out to sea for our lovely humpback whale visitors who also will be heading south. 🐋 I was lucky enough to see a few breaches not too far off Point Arkwright today — always such a magical sight!
Next week I’ll be off to Sydney for a vet expo, so a bit of skyline and street photography will be on the agenda too. Can't wait! 📷🏙️

Dolly update💙

The little one is still staying in our area.

I learned today that some of my images are being used to help assess her wounds and overall condition. I’m so glad that, in some small way, I can help.

Today I took a shorter lens, so the photos aren’t quite as good as usual and have been heavily cropped. Plus the light was harsher. But I hope they can still be useful. From what I can see, all of her known wounds appear to be stable, if not a little better again today.

I’m really hoping Dolly will soon feel strong enough to jump back into the ocean, feed properly and keep herself cool. 🤞💙

I’ve disabled commenting on this post and the previous ones because there have been some comments that weren’t helpful, and others that required responses from me. I’m back at work tomorrow ( looking after pets 😅) and simply won’t have the time to monitor my socials.

I hope you don’t mind me disabling the comments. It’s nothing personal — I just need to make sure I can focus on work while still sharing updates when I can.

I’ve also had a few messages asking for Dolly’s exact location. I’m sorry, but I don’t feel it’s my place to share that information. I hope you can understand and respect that.

I have to say, I’m genuinely surprised by how many people have viewed my photos and videos of Dolly. It really shows just how much this little one is loved by so many people. 💙 It’s lovely to know that so many of you are following her story and hoping, as I am, that she continues to heal and gets back to doing what seals do best.
