Long drive from Gladstone today but arrived safely in Townsville for a couple of days recovery after the 2026 QLD Variety Bash and then the long trek back to Tassie begins. Smoke haze from fires near Townsville making the full moon look huge and orange tonight.

It's almost THAT time of year and given my very first Bash was 20 years ago now, in 2006 ( Cairns to Birdsville - Reef to Races ) I decided to create a fundraising page to add a few more dollars to the kitty from the Bash Memories project I do every year as my 'giveback'. If you feel inclined to drop a few tax deductible $$'s towards this amazing charity for children, I'd be truly grateful.

Music in the Mulga 2026 is drawing to a close and what a fabulous 4 days of music and fun in the red dirt. This is the fabulous group of 'Happy Helpers' that are the grease in the system that makes the entire event possible ! What an amazing group of beautiful people who give 101%! They 'just make it happen'. I'm sad to be leaving but my annual fix of great music has totally recharged my batteries.

Heading for Music in the Mulga next weekend.. working my way West, and at Riversands Winery this afternoon in St George. Definitely worth stopping on your way :-) Weather superb, roads in excellent condition and plenty of fuel! Get your bags packed and come out West for a fabulous 4 days of fun & great music!

With all the craziness happening in the world right now, it's never been a better time to get out of town, wind down and kick back for the best ever 4 days of fun, laughter, great music, beautiful sunsets and wonderful people. Do yourself a favour and book a ticket, ack a bag and hit the road! You won't regret it :-)

Sad but not surprising development. But access on fully sealed roads out to Thargomindah in mid May, will make for an easy access event for Music in the Mulga ! The Outback communities really need to be supported, so do yourselves a favour and come on out :-)

🎶Organisers of the Birdsville Big Red Bash have announced that they have made the decision to cancel the 2026 edition of the iconic Outback music festival.😞

💦The event had been working on relocation options since learning the music festival could not proceed at the Big Red site this year due to rain and water that will not dry before July but now with soaring fuel prices the festival has been scrapped.

💬Festival founder Greg Donovan said a survey showed this was the outcome the majority wanted.
“While some people were happy to attend a relocated event, there was an equal number who would prefer not to and really see the Big Red Dune and being on the edge of the desert as the key reason why they want to attend,” he said.
“We decided it wasn’t feasible to relocate the event and it’s best to cancel for this year.”
“The fuel problem is going to be a broader issue for the whole outback, for the tourism industry, it’s definitely going to have some impacts if the situation continues,” he said.
