My second interview for the trip was with Alisher Narzullaev, a 6th generation master ceramicist from Gidjuvan, Uzbekistan.
I was flying by the seat of my pants a bit trying to arrange time with the masters, who are all very busy and in demand. Alisher is no exception, and was hesitant at first to accept my request for an interview. I'm so thankful he did though, because I learned so much about the history of ceramics in the region, how intergenerational knowledge about his craft has been passed down, and how he has trained his senses to produce the incredible art he does.
He's currently teaching both his son AND grandson in the workshop too, making that a total of 8 generations. An utterly incredible lineage of artistry.
Rahmat Alisher, until next time.
