AgriPix is changing the rules of stock photography - and putting photographers first

Since the industry started in the 1920s, most stock image libraries have basically followed the same model: contributors upload their work and the platform decides what it’s worth.

Yeah, nah. That’s not the AgriPix way.

We have two licence types: Farm Production and Creative.

Farm Production prices have fixed prices because this licence type is for images of the day-to-day details, all the hard yakka of growing crops, livestock, horticulture and so on.

There is great demand for Farm Production images within the ag sector, marketers and education.

But it’s less likely that many people are going to order framed prints of these images for their living-room walls - That’s where the Creative licence option comes into play.

The Creative licence option gives contributors the ability to freely set their own prices, from $1 to $10,000.

This is something rarely offered in the stock image world.

Unlike traditional stock libraries that dictate pricing, you can think of AgriPix like a bricks-and-mortar gallery where you control how to value your work.

And we will pay you 80% royalties for your Creative licenced images. Which increases to 90% if you offer exclusivity.

This gives the more Creative focused among you the flexibility to build a portfolio that reflects your own goals and reputation.

And what’s more, this is a unique offering for contributors and buyers when combined with the strong image searchability we have built into the AgriPix platform.

It’s all about rural and regional Australia.

We’re proud to introduce our second Featured Photographer of the Month…Katie Robertson.

'Katie is a multi-award winning, self-taught photographer specialising in rural lifestyle and landscape photography.

Based in Dalby, Qld, Robertson's artistic storytelling journey explores the unique and raw elements of modern-day life, creating thought-provoking, emotional pieces to captivate her audience.'

We were blown away when we saw Katie’s images which truly tell the story of agriculture and life in rural and regional Australia.

There’s a drone shot that captures the moment a sunrise casts its golden tendrils through low level fog across a vast paddock.

And some amazing captures of rodeo and campdraft action that made us worry for her safety while she was shooting it all.

Then there are others that tell stories of Farm Production, like a close-up of a cotton boll.

No, not a cotton ball, a boll, which is the rounded, mature fruit or seed pod of the cotton plant (genus Gossypium) that develops after flowering. You knew that right? So did we.

This image comes with a story that adds real value beyond the aesthetic value of the image: now it’s visual data.

At AgriPix, we believe rural Australia deserves a dedicated visual platform that truly represents the diversity of our landscapes, industries, and communities.

Contributors like Katie are helping create a growing library of authentic agricultural imagery that can be used across media, education, research, agronomy, marketing, and storytelling.

Aussie Coastal Views are Spectacular

Here are some more images I captured on my Big Lap a couple of years ago.

Our Aussie coastlines are some of the most beautiful, dramatic, and ancient in the world.

We have it all, from family friendly beaches through to treacherous rocky cliffs.

My favourite was at Cape Peron in north WA, where your camping spot is in the red desert sand just meters from the beach where you can paddle out a few more metres and be snorkelling around Ningaloo Reef.

Then come back to your camp and cook dinner at dusk while sharks are swimming around the same spot looking for their dinner.

These are some photos I took while crossing the Nullarbor on my Big Lap.

The rusted cars and derelict service station are at Koonalda Homestead in the Nullabor National Park about 20ks north of the new Eyre Highway.

Koonalda was a woking sheep and service station on the Old Eyre Highway before becoming part of the Nullabor National Park in 1989.

And there's a pic of the old Eucla service station which I remember being stuck at while old Harvey - a local rabbit trapper - managed to bush fix a blown transmission hose many years ago. Thanks Harvey!

AgriPix - Not just a stock image library.

(Not written with any AI assist but from the heart)

I did some research before deciding to build AgriPix and learned there are a few other local image libraries who’ve been connecting local clients with great Aussie images for years.

But they’re not direct competitors.

In fact, they’re quite different when you understand what AgriPix is aiming for.

Others are more focused on the traditional agency model, staging bespoke professional photo shoots with lighting and paid models.

And they’re doing a great, much needed job.

But there is a huge difference between them and what AgriPix is all about.

A big point of difference is collecting metadata associated with all images.

This makes AgriPix a unique platform.

And that's what's going to make AgriPix a valuable resource beyond the role of the traditional agency model.

This value will manifest itself one day when people can search for a great image of, for example, barley growing or being harvested, and also being able to see what variety of barley it is, where it's grown, whether it's been fertilised, irrigated, sprayed, when it was sewn and maybe even what soil type is present and how much rain it's had.

And eventually end users will be able to compare images of the same type of crop, breed of livestock or horticultural species at different growth stages in different regions.

And machinery, infrastructure, landscapes, native flora and fauna…everything!

My dream is that AgriPix will one day delve into the realm of citizen science and be a valuable resource not only for marketers but for industry, education, and science.

And AgriPix is a platform anyone can to contribute to.

You don’t need to be a professional and apply with a polished CV.

Farmers, students and travellers with a phone camera are as welcome to contribute as are more experienced artists.

The library is already growing, therefore so is its value as a knowledge resource to the wider community.

Join us if you have a camera, even a phone camera will do, and tell your visual stories about rural and regional Australia.

From chalk dust to stock images: A visual revolution in the classroom

Remember when “visual aids” meant dusty film reels and yellowed maps? Maybe you don't, but I do.

These days, rural Aussie classrooms are tech-powered and visually rich learning spaces, especially in ag and geography.

"Photography is about capturing the raw beauty of Australia’s wild and remote places. Living in the heart of the bush has given me deep appreciation for the landscapes, wildlife, and hardworking people who make this country special.

When I’m not at my full-time job, I’m chasing golden light, spotting eagles, or quietly watching kangaroos at sunset.

My husband David and I love the open road. We travel in our Landcruiser, off-grid caravan in tow, with our two beloved fur babies.
