My favourite photo from last weekend.

We were simply driving past Lake Bonney on our way home and stopped for a minute to take in the view. I hadn't brought my camera, so this was taken on my phone.

I'd love to return with my proper camera and spend a few hours searching for compositions. But I know moments like this can't really be recreated. The same clouds, the same light, the same atmosphere—they're unlikely to happen twice.

Even so, I can't help wondering what this place looks like at sunrise… or sunset.

What an amazing experience to be part of the annual Long Row event hosted by Renmark Rowing Club.

This year, the Long Row brought together 303 athletes, 58 crews, and participants from 33 clubs across Australia and New Zealand. It was the biggest event since it began nine years ago.

I love rowing photography, but I wouldn't give up the chance to take part in the event just to photograph it.

So the day after the event, we simply returned to the river and photographed the most beautiful spot along the course.

It all happened as per usual...

We were filming in McLaren Vale, and on the way back, the smell of the sea drifted in through the open car window. So we turned off the road. I’m not even sure what this beach was called. Can you recognise it, ?

We walked down to the water and spotted a mermaid dancing on the rocks beside her sheepskin coat and Uggs. We did not dare to film her — you never know what a mermaid’s privacy policy might be.

Instead, we completely lost track of time photographing the scenery. Around here, every rock seems to reveal another breathtaking view. You barely have time to take one photo before the next one appears. Somehow, though, we found the willpower not to go back to the car for the camera and made do with our phones.

Then, back on the highway, we spent the next several kilometres chasing the last light of the sunset at 100 km/h. I think we caught it, too.
