Unfortunately due to technical errors, a large portion of images from Churchill United Soccer Clubs inaugural Gerry Riess Cup 🏆 were lost - but I did manage to salvage a few!

I followed the Traralgon Olympians SC U11 White on their journey through to semi finals - which was met with an epic Olympians V Olympians showdown resulting in a very close 1-0 match.

The Olympians Blue team went on to the Grand final where they gave it their all, narrowly defeated by club hosts Churchill United in another 1-0 result.

The Olympians all-girls U9s opened their season against Tyers’ all-girls team and what better way to close it than right where they started. 💙⚽️

What a fantastic way for both teams to finish the season after spending the year competing in a mixed competition. They saved a cracker for last, with an action packed match full of back and forth football, plenty of determination and some brilliant moments from both sides - but nothing compared to the smiles on their faces and the cupcakes shared between teams at half time 💕

Throughout the season, the Olympians girls had the privilege of coming up against NYUSC and Moe United’s all-girls teams once or twice, while unfortunately missing Monash’s all-girls team in the draw.

That makes five all-girls U9 teams across the competition.

Five teams… enough for their own competition, some might say? 👀💙

A huge congratulations and plenty of credit to the clubs, coaches, committees, families and our girls who have made the commitment to field all-girls teams within the mixed divisions. You’re not just creating teams - you’re creating opportunities, confidence and a pathway for young girls to play football alongside other girls.

The tough going debut season for the retrospective girls teams’ has not been for nothing with additional clubs already locking in all-girls teams for the 2027 season 🙌🏼 and whispers of an all-girls league for U11s to follow.

Here’s hoping this is just the beginning, and that we see these five teams (and many more) competing in their very own all-girls division for U9s in the 2027 season as well 💙⚽️
