Our first haul out with Mayaluga! Up a very tidal creek to get to the lift. We nailed it getting into the slings and up onto the hard… but how many cans of worms do you reckon we can we open up?! 🪱

We’ve definitely had to spend a bit more time in the marina than we’d certainly like to this year. However, there could certainly be worse places to spend our time. We have a lot of big things in the works for the months ahead… so sometimes it’s hard to see the light at the end of the tunnel, but we’re learning a healthy lesson in patience. ☸️

Red sails on the horizon! 🌞 We’re often quite recognizable with Mayaluga’s tanbark sails. ❤️

Way back in the day, when cotton sails were used, rot was a big cause for concern. To help the cotton sails better weather the passing of time, they would soak & dye them in tannins from the bark of trees. They’d turn out a reddy-brown, and it would significantly slow down the deterioration of the sails. Mayaluga had custom tanbark dacron sails made for her appearance in the 2018 film ‘Adrift.’ While not your average white sail, this colouration provides resistance to mould/mildew/staining/burning your eyes out of your head when you look at them in the bright sun! On top of that, it’s also a great conversation starter!

We’re bright eyed and bushy tailed for the adventures ahead! ⚓️

We’ve been deep into the jobs, sprucing things up and making our beloved 50 year old ‘lugey a wonderful ‘new to us’ home. She’s had her gas re-run/certified and stove/oven hooked up, lots of engine work, electrical work, a new furler and her Genoa cut to fit, and much much more. It’s true what they say B.O.A.T. definitely stands for “bring out another thousand!” We’re ticking boxes, but there’s still a long road ahead ‘til we’re caught up. 🤙

Thanks to our friends from Slim & Soph - Sailing Nakama for the photo! ⛵️☺️

Hello Whitsundays! This is Mayaluga’s first visit to the heart of the reef!
Many thanks to everyone that has helped us along the way, in one way or another, to get her up here! 💙⛵️

Happy New Year! This year I’m officially a full time yachty. ⛵️
P.S. Don’t worry about the nectarine that I just threw all over the gunnel, dad.
