A refuge in the warmth of a local family’s home, where the bitter cold outside melted away in the glow of their hospitality. Amidst broken conversations and shared smiles, we exchanged stories, bridging the gap between our worlds. Khinaliq, Azerbaijan. 2023. ⁣

Different seasons from a dream house up on the mountains. Manali, 2021-23. ⁣

I’ve spent hours, days and months watching this same view in different seasons from when the grass is green with the sun shining bright, glorious sunsets with the last rays hitting the snow-clad peaks behind, rainy days to the magical snowfall when everything turns to grayscale. Sometimes, the memory of a place is what you can possess and in the end what possesses you. ⁣

A glimpse of few happy impactful moments from building the fish sanctuary along with the local community for the conservation of the Vembanad Ecosystem.

The adverse side effects of technological advancements, apathetic lifestyle choices and inventions such as plastic have been affecting life below water at a disastrous rate. Fish sanctuaries are a democratic approach to increase the fish population using indigenous methods. They are built by humans, using bamboo which acts as an artificial mangrove. These sanctuaries help fish breed by acting as a no-fishing zone and a safe haven for the fish, thus directly contributing to the UNSDG goals of Life Below Water & Climate Action and support the communities who depend on the lake for their livelihoods. For climate change and anthropogenic pollution affecting water bodies across the world, such solutions which are also called Nature-Based solutions are the way forward to adapt to changes and mitigate future uncertainties.

We have been in the water for over four hours. Time seemed to just vanish, and those hours have been some of my most heartfelt & impactful moments, which would live on.

Special thanks to Cherish Expeditions, Ashoka Trust for Research in Ecology and the Environment (ATREE) Tata Motors, Sustera, CGH Earth Experience Hotels for all their support!

Introductory music; extract from Bach’s Prelude, Cello Suite No. 1, over the flood waters in Assam.

Calm waters and the azure sky as fettered to the prism of art are but indicative of the surface reality underneath which lies the story of untold misery pertaining to the wretched of the earth that escapes the media gaze. The surface tranquillity notwithstanding the artistic representation as evident in the narrative aims at establishing an empathic vibration of kindred souls so as to invoke their corroborative gestures for effecting the amelioration of the human condition as witnessed in the discursive lens.

There was a time when people welcomed the 'first flooding' of the year which would replenish the fertility of the land. But today, things have come to such a pass that excessive flooding caused by climate change, human exploitation, politics & failed policies leave the state reeling on an annual basis. Faulty embankments lead more to disasters rather than providing protection. Children are unable to attend schools due to the frequent floods. More than 1,00,000 hectares of cropland submerged. Over 5.6 million people affected in 30 districts. Lakhs of houses washed away; several villages submerged. Animals come out of the wild in search of food & shelter to empty villages nearby. While the floods leave a trail of destruction behind, it becomes incumbent on us to take up the cudgels and help the distressed tide over the crisis.

Moments from few days before being hit by Corona.

My visits to Hampi have been special & meaningful ones with different stories each time. There is a lot more to Hampi than just visiting the heritage monuments and experiencing a coracle ride.

Listening to the multitude of stories and folklores from the villages around, meeting the sweet locals who have been a part of those stories. Falling in love with the curves and cracks, the perfections and imperfections of the rocks, climbing them, and chasing the most magical sunsets. Meeting soulful people from across the globe who have fallen in love with the place and looks at it as living in a magical dreamland that keeps pulling them back. Beautiful bondings through random musical sessions. There is so much to do and explore or do nothing at all and just be by yourself, be in the now, embrace nature's offerings, enrich and nourish your soul, have a moment of quiet introspection, or just be there, breathe and let it be.

This video is a collection of few moments amongst many special ones, from this magical little paradisiacal side of Hampi, which always has its own sweet changing vibe every time I visit there.

While we self isolate ourselves, stray animals are starving by struggling to find food. Despite Animal Rights Activists and Associations trying to do their part, they still do need volunteers, cooperation of law-enforcement authorities and more benevolent minds to help in anyway one could provide, perhaps just by leaving a heartfelt bowl of water and food outside their house. We all need more compassionate people for a better world to live in.
