The name was changed from 𝗔𝗿𝗮𝗸𝗮𝗻 𝗦𝘁𝗮𝘁𝗲 to 𝗥𝗮𝗸𝗵𝗶𝗻𝗲 𝗦𝘁𝗮𝘁𝗲 on 18 June 1989, but 𝗔𝗿𝗮𝗸𝗮𝗻 is still used historically.

"I have been involved with the crisis since 2017. We initially thought the would return quickly, as after the crises of 1978 and 1992, but nine years have passed.

Bangladesh now needs clear short-, medium- and long-term strategies. A high-level committee has been formed under the prime minister, and I believe it will set the future strategy.

We expect the international community to increase political pressure on Myanmar to take back its citizens safely and with dignity, and continue supporting Bangladesh until the last Rohingya is repatriated.

The Rohingya also need unity. Those in Myanmar, Bangladesh and elsewhere should speak with one voice, follow Bangladesh's laws and avoid actions that could increase resentment among local communities. They should preserve Arakan's history, traditions and culture for the next generation and build an organised, responsible community in the camps."
