"ঈশান কোণের নীল অন্ধকার: বাংলার এক অনন্য আখ্যান"

চৈত্রের শেষ বিকেলের সেই আকাশ যেন এক তপ্ত তামার থালা। চারদিকে ধূ ধূ রোদের নির্জনতা; মেঠো পথ ধরে হাঁটতে হাঁটতে ক্লান্ত পথিক দ্যাখে—বাতাস মরে গেছে বহুক্ষণ। মানুষের শরীর বেয়ে নোনা ঘাম গড়িয়ে পড়ছে নিরন্তর, যেন এক তপ্ত পিপাসার্ত বাংলা তার হাহাকার নিয়ে দাঁড়িয়ে আছে নির্নিমেষ।

হঠাৎ করেই সব স্তব্ধ হয়ে আসে। ঘাসের ওপর ফড়িংটার ওড়াউড়ি থেমে যায়। ঠিক তখনই দূর ওই ঈশান কোণ থেকে ভেসে আসে এক অদ্ভুত শীতল বাতাসের ঘ্রাণ। সেই বাতাস ঠিক চেনা কোনো পরশ নয়, বরং জনপদ আর মাঠের ওপর দিয়ে বয়ে আসা এক মহাজাগতিক আশীর্বাদ। পরান জুড়ানো সেই ঠাণ্ডা হাওয়া যখন শরীর ছুঁয়ে যায়, তখন মনে হয়—পৃথিবী তার সব উত্তাপ কোনো এক জাদুমন্ত্রে মুছে নিতে চাইছে।

তারপর আকাশ জুড়ে শুরু হয় এক মায়াবী আয়োজন। শরতের সাদা মেঘ নয়, এ যেন এক নীল অন্ধকারের ঘনঘটা। মহাকালের রথের চাকার মতো মেঘের গুরুগুর ডাক, আর থেকে থেকে বিদ্যুৎশিখার এক তীব্র চাবুক—যেন আকাশের গায়ে কোনো এক ক্ষ্যাপাটে শিল্পীর আঁচড়। মুহূর্তের স্তব্ধতা ভেঙে নেমে আসে সেই ঝমঝমিয়ে বৃষ্টি। তপ্ত ধুলোর সোঁদা গন্ধ বাতাসে মেশে; মাঠের বুক চিরে ঘাসেরা যেন জেগে ওঠে নবজন্মে। মাত্র কয়েক মিনিট আগেও যেখানে আগুনের হলকা ছিল, সেখানে এখন থৈ থৈ শীতলতা। ৫-৭ ডিগ্রি সেলসিয়াসের সেই আচমকা পতন কেবল থার্মোমিটারের হিসেব নয়, এ যেন দগ্ধ হৃদয়ের ওপর এক পশলা শান্তি।

পৃথিবীর মানচিত্রে কত শত ঝড়ের আনাগোনা—টাইফুন, হারিকেন কিংবা টর্নেডোর রুক্ষ দাপট; কিন্তু আমাদের এই কালবৈশাখীর মতো এমন বিষণ্ণ অথচ কল্যাণময়ী রূপ পৃথিবীর আর কোথাও খুঁজে পাওয়া ভার। এ যেন প্রকৃতির এক নিগূঢ় কারুকার্য, যা কেবল এই গাঙ্গেয় বদ্বীপের জন্যই তোলা ছিল। উত্তরের হিমালয় আর দক্ষিণে বঙ্গোপসাগরের সেই মায়াবী মিলনে যে মহাকাব্য রচিত হয়, তা এই বাংলার একান্ত নিজস্ব সম্পদ। বিশ্বের অন্য কোনো প্রান্তে উত্তাপের এমন দহন চিরে হঠাৎ মেঘের এমন শীতল আশীর্বাদ নেমে আসে না।

কালবৈশাখী তাই কেবল এক ঋতুচরিত্র নয়, এ হলো প্রকৃতির এক পরম বিস্ময়—যা ধ্বংসের আবরণে আসলে প্রাণের নবায়ন করে যায়। পৃথিবীর শ্রেষ্ঠ কোনো শিল্পীও বুঝি এমন ক্ষিপ্রতায় তপ্ত দুপুরের ক্যানভাস মুছে দিয়ে সেখানে গাঢ় মেঘের জলরঙে শান্তির এমন আখ্যান লিখতে পারতেন না। জীবনানন্দ যেমন বলেছিলেন, ‘পৃথিবীর সব রং নিভে গেলেও পাণ্ডুলিপি তবুও থাকে’—কালবৈশাখীও তেমনি। চারপাশ তছনছ করে দিয়েও সে রেখে যায় এক অদ্ভুত পবিত্রতা। এই বাংলার মাটির গভীরেই কেবল লুকিয়ে আছে কালবৈশাখীর সেই অনন্য সুর, যা বিশ্বচরাচরের আর কোনো জনপদে এমনভাবে ধ্বনিত হয় না।

While empires rose and fell, the ancestors of the Bengal Monitor (গুইসাপ) were already busy patrolling the earth. Emerging from the Cretaceous period, these lizards are an evolutionary masterclass—surviving the very extinction that wiped out the dinosaurs.

Watching this one navigate the undergrowth at JU felt like watching a "living fossil" in its natural element. From their flicking forked tongues (which "taste" the air for prey) to their dragon-like gait, they are a direct link to a world that existed long before humans.

অনেক অন্ধকার পার হয়ে এসেছি আমি; এই জীর্ণ কাঠগোলাপের ডালপালার নিচে স্তব্ধ হয়ে আছে কোনো এক বিকেলের মায়া। শাড়ির পাড়ে লেগে থাকা লাল রঙ যেন সেই পুরোনো পউষের স্মৃতি, যা আজ বৈশাখের নীলাম্বরী আকাশে নিঃসঙ্গ একা এক ছায়ার মতো দাঁড়িয়ে।

A first-time sighting for me, and just in time. As a winter visitor to Bangladesh, this Black Redstart (কালাগির্দি ) is likely preparing for his long journey back north. Bittersweet to find a new friend right as they're leaving! ✈️🐦
