“খেয়া পারাপার” (Kheya Parapar) in Bengali refers to the act of crossing a river using a খেয়া নৌকা (small boat). This phrase is deeply symbolic in Bengali literature, poetry, and music, often representing life’s journey, transitions, or even the spiritual crossing from life to the afterlife.

It is commonly used in songs, poems, and philosophical discussions, especially in the works of Lalon Fakir, Rabindranath Tagore, and other mystic poets.

One of Lalon Fakir’s famous songs related to “খেয়া পারাপার” (Kheya Parapar) is:

“পারাপার কবে হবে”

(Parapar Kabe Hobe)

Lyrics (Bengali):
পারে লয়ে যা রে,
খেয়া পারের মাঝি,
এপার হতে ওপার দেশে,
কবে হবে পারাপার।

A gamcha is a traditional, thin, handwoven cotton towel commonly used in South Asia, especially in India, Bangladesh, and Nepal. It is lightweight, highly absorbent, and dries quickly, making it ideal for use in hot and humid climates. Gamchas are often checkered or striped and come in various bright colors. They are widely used for drying off after bathing, as head coverings, scarves, or even as makeshift bags or belts.
