Hindi lahat ng seaman ay nabibigyan ng pagkakataon na makalabas o pasyal sa kada puerto na kanilang napupuntahan.

Lalo na noong pandemic na sobrang higpit.

Internet simcard na lang ang inaabangan kada port.

May pagkakataon pa na makakatapak ka lang sa lupa pagbaba mo na pagkatapos ng kontrata sa barko.

Pagkalipas ng pandemic, dahil naman sa mabilisang vessel and port operations o di kaya ay mayroong mga scheduled maintenance, pahirapan pa rin ang shoreleave.

January 2020 pa ako huling nakapag-shoreleave. Sa Sept-Iles, Canada bumisita kami sa tahanan ng kapwa natin Pinoy na cargo surveyor, si Sir Christopher.

Ngayon, matapos ang lampas kalhating dekada, sa wakas ay nakalabas at paglibot tayo sa Southampton, United Kingdom!

Bumisita kami sa Seacity Museum tampok ang Southampton's Titanic Story.
897 ang total crew members ng lumubog na Titanic noong 1912 at higit 715 dito ay tubong Southampton.
175 lamang ang nakaligtas at nakabalik sa kani-kanilang pamilya at tahanan.

Life onboard can sometimes be exhausting —

The routine upto the major maintenance and overhauling, various audits and inspections, numerous reports and paper works, and even the unexpected troubles and emergencies too.

On top of that, seafarers are still humans.

They are fighting their own personal battles away from home.

But we rarely see a photo like this from a seafarer's personal social media account.

What other people see are the grand houses, fancy cars, luxurious vacation or their branded clothes and latest gadgets.

Why?

Because seafarers are individuals who will tell good stories so that their family and friends at home doesn't need to worry about them.

They would rather face the loneliness and toxicity onboard by themselves.

The next time you see a seafarer online, chat them.

Talk to them and have an actual conversation.

This might ease him/her after a tiring day at work.

And to you, my dear friend, remember to take a break.

Breathe.

You did great today and tomorrow is another day closer to being with your loved ones again.

They are waiting for you.
