With 30 years of experience living in Kyoto, I’ll guide you through some of the most scenic and culturally rich spots. I was born in Antwerp, Belgium, and enjoyed my teenage years during the peak of the "Flower Power Hippie" generation. I hitchhiked through Europe, living on a beach south of Agadir, Morocco, for some time to learn English. For most of my adult life, I was a public relations representative for a Christian NGO in the Benelux area. Aside from Japan, I have lived in Indonesia, the Philippines, South Korea, and Singapore, to name a few. I love baking things such as bread, pies, and fruit cakes, and I am an avid Blues lover; some of my favourite artists are B.B. King, Eric Clapton, and Stevie Ray Vaughan. I enjoy a good movie with a glass of w**e, a Belgian Trappist, and some Rochefort blue cheese. Since September 2012, I have been an honorary member of the Kyoto Guide Club. I have lived in Japan for almost 30 years, 5 years in Tokyo and 25 years in Kyoto, the ancient capital. My aim is to provide information about this extraordinary city to future travellers. Jakkō-in, a temple located in Ōhara, Kyoto, was founded by Prince Shōtoku Taishi in 594.

A few pictures from my archives. I visited Jakkō-in (寂光院) in Ōhara, Kyoto. The garden there is beautiful, with ponds and Koi fish. It was well into December, and the autumn leaves had fallen to the ground.
Jakko-in is a renowned temple that once served as the secluded residence of Kenreimon-in Tokuko (1155–1213). Tokuko was the daughter of Taira no Kiyomori (1118–1181), the powerful chief of the Heike clan, and the consort of Emperor Takakura. After the Heike clan's devastating defeat at the naval Battle of Dan-no-ura, where they were crushed by Minamoto no Yosh*tsune (1159–1189)—the younger brother of the Genji clan chief—Tokuko was rescued from an attempted su***de and found refuge at Jakko-in.

Plum Blossoms at Suzuka Forest Garden, Mie Prefecture, Japan.

Suzuka Forest Garden, a research and cultivation farm, boasts a collection of precious weeping Japanese plum trees, many of which are Kureha Shidare, some of which are classified as the largest class in Japan. This farm bridges traditional Japanese cultivation skills and future generations. The garden is open to the public in early spring, when the plum trees bloom. At night, the spectacular view of about 200 magnificent plum trees in bloom, beautifully illuminated, creates a mesmerising ambience.

"Rainbow Line & Five Lakes: A Day at Fukui's Summit Park"

A few days ago, my family and I visited Wakasa Bay in Fukui Prefecture. We drove along the Rainbow Line and took a lift to the summit.

It was a hot and hazy day, but it was an interesting place to visit, especially in the fall.
