No alto das serras do Espinhaço, a vida se manifesta em diferentes tamanhos e cores.
A Vellozia gigante (_V. gigantea_), a maior de seu gênero, pode ter mais de 5 metros de altura.
Crescendo apenas poucos centímetros por ano, é uma testemunha do tempo.
Seu "tronco", formado por raízes recobertas pelas bainhas compactadas de folhas antigas, serve tanto para captar umidade das neblinas, quanto para proteger do fogo eventual.
É também a casa preferida da bela orquídea _Cattleya brevipedunculata_, que nele cresce e floresce, celebrando esta antiga parceria.

The giant Vellozia (_V. gigantea_), the largest of its genus, can be more than 5 meters tall.
Growing only a few centimeters per year, it is a witness to time.
Its "trunk", formed by roots covered by the compacted sheaths of old leaves, serves both to capture moisture from fog and to protect against eventual fire.
It is also the favorite home of the beautiful orchid _Cattleya brevipedunculata_, which grows and blooms there, celebrating this ancient partnership.
