I have a silly habit of not enjoying the process… 🙄

I always want to get to the next stage. When I was overworked and tired, I couldn’t wait to cut back and focus on fewer, more impactful jobs.

Now that I’m there, I feel myself worrying (for no good reason) about not being BUSY.

Just a reminder to not believe everything you think. Our mind can play crazy tricks on us simply because we’ve conditioned it to think a certain way (even if it’s not the best or most productive for us).

How To Use Your Images On Social Media ✨

Sometimes I provide hundreds of images to a client and they post a few, here and there. The posts are sporadic, unintentional and really have no rhythm to them.

But, I GET IT! The trick to posting regularly and coming up with ideas for your social media is to have a system. The system I use is called ‘The 3 E’s’

Encouragement, entertainment + education.

At the end of the day, your clients and viewers just want to see into your brain. What are you doing? What are you thinking? What are you working on? How did you get there? Blah, blah, blah…

What they don’t want to know? What you’re selling. No one wants to be constantly sold to. It’s boring, feels distant and lacks personality.

So, when you don’t know what to post, pour yourself a glass of something sparkling, grab your laptop, open a document and start brainstorming. You don’t need titles or topics, you just need words.

If you can think of one topic for each of the 3 E’s you can think of another. And another. Until it snowballs into a months long list of content ideas!

No one knows your business better than you do. No one is judging you. We just want to know what you’re up to and what’s in your brain (and stop worrying about being so professional).

I won’t take on every client that comes my way.

I used to, but it took a bit of time for me to realize that just because I CAN, doesn’t mean I should. Simply put, I can’t be every persons cup of tea and they can’t be mine.

I know my client. They are upbeat, happy, relaxed, organized, great sense of humour, excited about their business and they trust me. They are repeat clients, which makes us a lot more like friends. We talk about the real stuff like balancing life and work, the crazy people we meet along the way (lol) and our goals.

This means I also know who my client is not. Every individual has different needs and I can admit when I know I’m not the person to fulfill those needs. I always have a roster of other amazing photographers in my back pocket who I know can handle different situations better than me.

Zero in on your strengths, always. Don’t try to be someone you’re not to please someone who isn’t going to appreciate it.

Say YES to clients who make your heart soar and say no when you know someone else can do it better. Actually, say “no, but I know this person would be able to help you…”

💰 3 Reasons Why You Need To Increase Your Prices! 💰

It’s one of the most paralyzing parts of starting your own business… or is it?

A lot of the time we think that because we LOVE our businesses, or because we are less experienced than our neighbours, we can’t increase our pricing or charge what is at the minimum - industry standard. Fortunately, this is just a lie that we tell ourselves to stay safe!

IT’S OKAY! We all do it. At the end of the day, you can charge WHATEVER you’re comfortable with.

But here are a few reasons why I think you should increase your pricing for 2023…

01. HAVING A LOWER PRICE MAKES YOU LOOK INEXPERIENCED.
If I’m a quality customer, I’m not looking for the cheapest deal. I’m looking for someone I can trust with the money I give them and a lot of the time that means spending more to get a better product and experience. When your client sees that you’re priced for low budget, their minds immediately say “low budget experience”. Ask yourself if your pricing reflects your brand - are you Dasani water or VOSS water, or somewhere in between?

Added Note: For some reason, a lot of the time, people who are looking for a low budget experience are extremely likely to complain and ask for things for free or for refunds that they don’t deserve.

02. THE OBVIOUS - YOU’RE NOT MAKING ANY MONEY.
With the increase in well… everything, you are basically working for free. Have you truly added up all of your annual expenses and time to see what you’re making per hour? The #1 mistake we make when creating our prices is not looking at what it’s costing us to run the business.

03. YOU’RE GOING TO BURN OUT!
BOOKED! NOT BUSY! It’s not a flex to be busy anymore, but it is to have a quality life. I used to want to book as much as I possibly could, but it left me depressed, lonely, exhausted and I hated my job that I once felt so lucky to have.

If you take one thing away from this post, let it be this… it’s better to have a few IDEAL CLIENTS PAYING MORE for a great experience, than a ton of random clients paying less (and probably complaining because you just don’t have the energy to get to know their needs).

HOLA 2022! 💫 Today I wanted to share a little tidbit that I picked up within these first 20 days of the year.

The truth about setting goals and working toward a dream is… before you start, it’s REALLY exciting, motivating and amazing 🌈
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
But when you actually start it, it sucks. It does. It’s hard. It’s painful. 😫
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
If you have or had a goal for this year, but you feel like you’ve already failed (first of all, you’re not alone) go back to your WHY and develop it to be stronger, better and more fierce. 💥
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
The transition of becoming something new isn’t necessarily supposed to be pretty (although, I encourage you to grasp all the positives and turn your failures into flight) ⛅️
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
The journey to the next level up for you might be rough, but if your core reason behind WHY you are putting your energy into this dream is bullet proof, you will never give it up. The struggle with be worth it 💪

Do you ever wish that you had a job that you could "leave at work" rather than running your own business?

This was a question I was asked yesterday by a friend, and if I'm being honest, have asked myself many times.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
There are many times that I’ve allow a certain stressor to ruin my time at home or fill my conversation with family and friends. I do have to be the boss, employee, and the one who picks up the pieces, the manager; as many of you are experiencing, as well.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
Let me tell you this, if you're feeling overwhelmed in your business and like you want to throw it all away, that's extremely normal. These are growing pains and a sign that you're ready for a change, but that doesn't have to mean a new career… It just means a change in your process.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
Here are my best tip for overcoming overwhelm:
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
Look at what's not working.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
What is the thing that stresses you out the most and how can you make it easier on yourself? If it's emails, or clients repeating the same questions (even though you have a dedicated FAQ page on your website that they're clearly not reading) it's up to you to find a solution. Clients will never go searching for answers.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
Their experience should be as seamless as possible, so answer their questions before they even ask them. Have a note saved on your phone with a template of questions, copy, paste and send it in your initial email, or have it listed in your brochure.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
Set boundaries for yourself. If you're mentally exhausted from answering emails all day, don't. Answer emails from 12-3 and commit to it for your own peace of mind.

A great business is full of systems that work for the client AND the operator. It's just figuring those systems out that can be tricky.
