Passion for Motorsports meets adult reality
As a child, there were only two things I ever wanted; a beard and to be a racing driver. Well, so far one has very successfully come to fruition, and the other...not so much. There is no need to go into the reasons/happening, but as it stands my need for speed will have to suffice with open highways, go-kart tracks and attending events as a fan.
Never one to be content with just attending and viewing from afar, Iβve continuously delved deeper in ways to interact with the drivers & teams of the sport I enjoy so much, as well as to give back and bring that passion to others. This journey really took off in the summer of 2015, when I had found myself into a car that could reliably take me past the city limits. I attended the NASCAR event at the (then) Nationwide Series race at Mid-Ohio in Ohio, which was at that time my first NASCAR event since 1997.
Armed with a $50 Fuji point & shoot, I found myself in great luck. I had happened upon quite an action spot on the racetrack, and the thrill of attempting a great photo on moving cars enthralled me. Over the course of the weekend, I printed off some of these photos and on race morning, I was able to mingle & obtain personal autographs from drivers I had respected and rooted for such as Mike Harmon, Carl Long, Ryan Sieg and others. To many, these are not household names. Many people watch sports of any discipline and focus on those at the top; the big dogs. As someone who has always been an underdog/small fish in the pond, I have never been able to relate to these athletes/teams etc. It has always come natural to root, follow and cheer for those at the bottom attempting to make their way up, or are doing it for the love of the sport.
While NASCAR was the four-wheeled motorsport of choice in the house back in the day, Iβve come to enjoy almost all forms of racing. As such, Iβve attended NASCAR Xfinity, Camping World Truck, Canadian Pinty, Formula-E, Indycar and countless support series. They all have a different challenge in getting a great shot, as well as different vibes and all over board experiences.
My goal is not to become some AP or Getty Image contributor, but to use social media platforms to mold my craft to become someone who could be a great photographer with a product that rivals those who are. First, I must learn all the fancy settings on these crazy cameras now-a-days. After that, its all about getting out there and attending events. I hope all of those who come and witness the photos/videos on this page enjoy what they see & that I can bring some sort of story for those who do not get the limelight.
