Welcome to the one of the largest communities in Trinity Bay: D***o, Newfoundland & Labrador
Yes, it’s a real place. Yes, it’s in Newfoundland. Yes, it's always been that name. And yes, the name gets the reaction you’re thinking.
D***o's rise to worldwide fame after Jimmy Kimmel featured the town on his late night comedy show in a satirical attempt to run a campaign to become the town's mayor. The campaign dreee international attention to the town and its unique name. The only issue was that the town did not have a mayor, at least until Kimmel was named the honorary mayor, a title he still officially maintains to this day.
In the aftermath of an international spotlight, the town erected a Holywood-style sign of its name on a hill (no pun intended) which has become a tourist attraction in and of itself.
Local companies in the area including the brewery and cafe now sell a variety of merchandise and apparel emblazoned with the town's name.
Even ignoring the town's unique title, I think D***o is a place that should not be overlooked if you plan to travel to Newfoundland's eastern coast. With a scenic panoramic view of the ocean, great bites to eat at the D***o Brewing Company and D***o Cafe, and local shops to explore. It is just off the beaten path, but within an hour of St. John's.
D***o Brewing Co in particular has a mini-museum, store selling branded merchandise, and a 2-story in house brewery and restaurant featuring fresh seafood and bar food alongside their own domestically produced beers, IPAs, and cocktails, and oceanfront patio seating.
Just another day in Newfoundland. 🇨🇦
