Calgary Youth Art Exhibition

Calgary Youth Art Exhibition An initiative to celebrate the talent and passion of youth artists in Calgary by showcasing their art in a community sharing space.

Artists Opening Night at the exhibition is kicking off in an hour! While you hangout and freely chat away, we'll also be exchanging opinions in: modern art's merits, public funding for personal art preferences, favorite artists, and more!

...And the exhibition becomes reality! Our passionate, talented artists now have their works up at the café. We would like to extend a warm thank you to all the artists who participated in this year's art exhibition. They are the driving force of CYAE; they are the ones willing to get up at 6 in the morning, drive nails into walls, and excitedly fuss over the straightness of each others' works. We would also like to thank all our supporters, who made this much for special for the artists.
The exhibition runs August 1-22. Stop by and check it out!

Our featured mind of the day is Frida Kahlo (1907-1954), a Mexican painter, political activist, and feminist icon best known for her self portraits. Her art is described by Surrealist André Breton as "a ribbon around a bomb". Kahlo lived a short, eccentric life, shaped by her string of love affairs (of which included Leon Trotsky, the exiled Russian Marxist revolutionary), tumultuous marriage, and ill health.Through her portraits, Kahlo reveals her innermost thoughts through careful, poetic evocation of emotion, and added elements of powerful personal symbolism.
“I drank to drown my sorrows, but the damned things learned how to swim.”
