Once in a while, I get the chance to practice photographing actual humans instead of wildlife, waterfalls, and pretty landscapes.

I'll be honest—it's a little awkward. To get genuine smiles, I'll probably say something completely ridiculous or wildly out of pocket. It works more often than it should.

Unlike scenery, people don't naturally know how to pose. And unlike animals, I can't just silently stare through the viewfinder waiting for the perfect moment—that gives off serious "creepy photographer" vibes, and that's definitely not the look I'm going for.

Here are a few of my favorite shots of a real person in the wild.
