Pike. Day 823. 🤍

12.5 years ago, Pike became Brianna’s first dog who was truly hers. Since then, he’s been by her side through (in her words) “so much change, joy, grief, growth, and all the in-between.” Two years ago, Pike was diagnosed with a tumor on his heart. Brianna chose to treat him with chemotherapy, knowing it wouldn’t cure his cancer, but hoping it would give him more good days. And it did! Pike kept going. 🫶🏼

Then, shortly before our session, Brianna shared something with me. Pike’s medical notes stated that the reported survival time for dogs treated with this chemotherapy ranged from 478–823 days. Day 823 for Pike was June 6th, the exact day of our session.

She called it “a special little nod from the universe to celebrate Pike.” 🤍 So that’s exactly what we did. We celebrated a little dog who has given his person 12.5 years of love.

“For now, I will keep following Pike’s lead, taking no time for granted, and soak up every extra day he’s willing to give me.”

Zuki was an absolute character. 🥹 Seriously one of the cutest little spirits full of life! When Melissa asked to incorporate their passion of mountain biking together into this shoot, I had to say yes. It added such a fun little element to this forest session and came together so perfectly! Thank you for sharing your little Zuki with me, Melissa. 🤍🌲

🌙 I saw a quote yesterday that mentioned you’ll never photograph the same moment twice.

Every moment you’ve captured has existed exactly once. Down to the lighting, the smallest details in the scene, and even the way you felt standing behind the camera at that exact moment. You’re capturing something that is already vanishing the second you press the shutter. That really stuck with me. Every body of work I’ve created can never be replicated in quite the same way, and I think that’s one of the most incredible things about photography.
Here’s to the moments that existed only once.

The kind of summer evening you just want to bottle up. 😌 These amazing dogs were my very first shoot during my session travels back in June. Sydney’s three dogs were so much fun to photograph! They all had such different personalities that made photographing them so unique. I ADORED all three of them! Here’s what Sydney had to say about her little pack:

🌤️ “I got Siren (little black dog with white) as a teenager when I first moved out to Colorado. I was in a super dark place, and she brought light back into my life. She sparked my passion for travel, hiking, and dog sports. I got my boy dogs to do sports with and keep me active. They all sparked my love of training and learning dog behaviour!”

Liz and her beautiful family were one of the first sessions I had during my trip to Ontario back in June. She brought me to their beautiful property for a sunrise session and it was everything I dreamed of and more. The sky, the dock, the morning light coming through the trees. I could easily spend every one of my mornings that way. 🥹 Here are some kind words from Liz and what she had to say about her Lucy & Rayne:

☀️”I’ve been following your work for so long and always dreamed of making the trip out to BC for a session, but it never quite worked out. When I saw you were coming closer to me, I knew I had to make it happen. Both of my dogs came into my life through rescue, and they truly are my whole world. They’ve shaped so much of who I am and how I spend my days. Being able to capture them like this, in a way that feels so true to them, means more than I can really put into words.”

This right here is without a doubt my absolute favourite weather to shoot in. Those misty clouds 😭 Those rich, earthy tones. The perfect amount of soft, diffused light. Pair it with a perfect little family and it is just.. 👌🏼 Here’s what Lyndsey had to say about her babies Karma & Krueger:

🌲”My pups are my world. I’ve had the pleasure of having them in my life since they were both little puppies. Karma (Golden Retriever) is a free spirit, exploring everything she can, and has to be part mountain goat with how she effortlessly scales steep, rocky terrain. She’s constantly making me feel out of shape when we hike, lol! She is also a class clown and is alway’s making us smile or laugh!

Krueger (American Bully), despite his reactivity, is one of the sweetest souls I’ve ever met! He tries so hard to do his best, and just wants to make us happy. He is a cuddle bug at his core. I struggle with fairly severe anxiety, and bless his heart. He knows when I’m struggling, he will come over to me, he will sit on my lap and lean against my chest. Which always eases my anxiety. He wasn’t trained to do this, he just instinctually knew what to do. Now I’m tearing up.” 🤍

These four were an absolute joy to have in front of my camera 🤍 From forests to the lake and beach, it was such a perfect evening with a gorgeous sunset view. Here’s what Alyssa & AC had to say about their precious babies:

“Berkley and Vermont are such a special part of our family. We’ve been through a lot of change together, including a recent move across the country, and they’ve been a constant source of comfort and stability through it all. Watching them settle in, explore new places, and really thrive here has been pretty special. They’re always up for whatever comes next, and having them by our sides for all of it makes every adventure that much better.” 🌲🏔️

Luna is a MAIN CHARACTER. She is so, so sweet and so full of life. She 100% knows how to work a camera, I mean.. just look at her! She makes it so incredibly easy to capture the little moments that make her who she is. Somehow every photo feels like a scene from her own storybook. 😍

You never really know when you’re creating the images that will someday mean everything. A few months after this session, Luna passed away. As photographers, we often don’t know the weight an image will carry when we press the shutter… sometimes those moments quietly become something much more. I hope these photographs can speak for themselves about how much Yubo loves Luna & Strider. 🤍

WOW HI 🤍

It has been well over a month since I’ve been here, but it feels great to be back! I’ve been travelling for shoots the past month and catching up on all my work outside of that as well. It’s hard to balance real life work as well as social media, so posting in my feed tends to take a back seat. But I have endless content to share going forward that I can’t wait to post. ☺️

Starting with these precious souls. This shoot was focused a bit more on Luca (as I’ve photographed his Aussie brother Nalu already once before). Isn’t Luca a star? He was only 8 months old at the time of this shoot! Such a good boy. 😭 Thank you Haruna for sharing your boys with me again. Can’t wait for our other shoot at the end of the month! 🏔️
