14 years ago today, I photographed my very first birth.
14 years later, I am still completely in awe that this is the work I get to do. To stand quietly in the room while people meet their babies for the first time. To witness strength, vulnerability, love, fear, joy, and transformation over and over again. There truly are no words for the honour of being trusted with moments this intimate.
Over the last 14 years I have documented somewhere around 130 births. Home births, hospital births, water births, c-sections, births that happened five minutes after I arrived and births that lasted over 24 hours. Every single one has changed me in some way.
To every family who invited me into their story, every midwife who referred me, every person who shared my work, liked a post, left a comment, told a friend, or supported this dream in any way… thank you.
These 14 years have meant more to me than I could ever explain.
