Do you live in Edmonton and want to spend more time out with your camera?

I’ve started offering a few 90 minute private photography lessons over the next few weeks.

We’ll head outside with your camera and work through the things you actually want to understand.

No experience required - bring a friend!

I've been wanting to create more opportunities for people to simply get out and make photographs together.

Photography can become surprisingly solitary and sometimes surprisingly intimidating. We buy the camera, watch the tutorials, learn the settings... and then don't always give ourselves enough reasons to actually go out and use it.

So this September I'm launching a small series of Field Notes Photography walks and workshops in Edmonton.

These aren't about having the newest camera or knowing all the right settings. They're about slowing down, noticing what's around us, experimenting, asking questions and making photographs alongside other curious people.

I'm starting with two small-group experiences at the Alberta Legislature:

📷 Macro Photography at the Legislature - September 12

A hands-on two-hour workshop limited to four photographers.

📷 The Art of Noticing: An Edmonton Photo Walk - September 16

A relaxed 90-minute photo walk for cameras or phones, limited to eight people.

More Edmonton walks and workshops will be added throughout the fall.

Small groups. Interesting places. Photography without the intimidation.

The Beaver Lake Cree Nation Pow Wow edits took a minute. Lost somewhere between reminiscing on intention and the love that went into the regalia.

My gift back to the Nation and the dancers.❤️

An exciting first Alberta storm chase.

I’m learning this game is no joke.

Take the time to learn how to read the radars and the sky. Keep a full gas tank and learn your route.

Looking forward to more adventures under this sky.

Grateful to be back on Haida Gwaii this month working with Skidegate and Old Massett.

Here are some of my favourite shots from this past week. ✨

Looking forward to sharing more as I move up island next week.

I’m about to drive through Jasper - Alberta, which I haven’t done in over a decade. I’m curious to slow down and see (and feel) the impacts of the 2024 wildfire.

Aside from the usual road trip setup of audiobooks and clean camera lenses, getting ready to go and thinking about nature…

It’s a good reminder to be prepared for how the elements move.

In case no one told you lately, be prepared for changing conditions.

Tell a friend of family members your journey plan.
Check the road reports before you go.
Charge your camera batteries!

Have you ever travelled to Jasper, Alberta?

It’s Wanderlust Wednesday and it’s always an honour to find my work featured here.

This week I’m reminded that sometimes our greatest adventures happen right at home.

The image of Alberta was taken along the tracks in Viking. Looking forward to getting back out there next weekend!

Storm season is almost here and I thought I’d share a bit about the process of learning.

Weather apps are downloaded.

Weekends are now spent exploring zones where I can drop pins on google my map for things like pull offs, bathrooms and gas stations. (And coffee of course.).

I’m looking for things like horizons, sight lines and interesting structures to include.

While Alberta doesn’t have a tornado alley like the US, it is famously known for its hail.

This year is a learning year and a year to prioritize images and safety over adrenaline. 💨

Have you ever wanted to go storm chasing?
