Looking back at my first trip to Paris and Brugés
Still highlights of my life and it was honour to capture the culture.
First image: After leaving the busy streets of Paris, we wandered into a quieter residential neighbourhood and eventually found a small park to rest. The afternoon had been warm and slow, and we ended up falling asleep beneath a canopy of trees. When we woke, the light had softened and the street beside us felt almost completely still. That was when this scene appeared. A small red car rolled into view beneath striped awnings, the colours of the street aligning in a way that felt almost too perfect to be planned. Warm sunlight bounced off the pale buildings while shadows from the trees stretched across the pavement. There was no one else around, just a quiet corner of the city holding its breath for a moment. It felt like discovering a small, unnoticed pocket of Paris where everyday life moves gently and beautifully.
Second image: During my first visit to Paris in 2022, this moment unfolded just steps outside the busy Louvre. After the crowds and movement of the museum, we stepped into the gardens and found a quiet pause. A man sat in the sun on the grass, facing a sculpture as if they were keeping each other company. Around him, life carried on slowly. People walked, talked, rested, and enjoyed the warmth of the day.
In that moment, Paris stopped feeling like a destination and started to feel like a place where ordinary life happens. The Eiffel Tower sat quietly in the distance, no longer just a landmark but part of the everyday skyline. Watching this scene felt like a glimpse into what it might be like to simply be Parisian on a sunny afternoon. The city became less about monuments and more about the simple rhythm of living.
