Panorpa

Why the long face ? Panorpa is a type of scorpionfly and although the scorpion portion may sound intimidating these are completely harmless to humans. They are actually scavengers that will eat dead insects and decaying plants.

Flower crab spider

I probably would have missed the opportunity to photograph this Flower Crab Spider if it wasn’t for the fact it moved while I passing by. I actually had to increase the green hue on the spider in order to separate the spider and flower better as these spiders use colour changing skin to camouflage themselves.

Hover Fly

I was watching bees work away in the garden when I seen this guy zoom by before hovering over some flowers. It was very interesting to watch this one hover and sucking up nectar with its proboscis.

Dusky Stink Bug

I’ve been trying to get a photo of a stink bug for a while now but they never seem to want to cooperate. I found this Dusky Stink Bug on our garage, although it was turning away from the camera at times it cooperated enough for some decent shots

Black-bellied Plover

Not only did I get to see the Avocet but I was able to finally get a decent shot of a Black-bellied plover. There was a handful of them on the beach but this one seemed to prefer spending its time with a Yellow Legs over the other plovers.

Wandering the mud flats alone before taking a short flight over to some other shore birds to join in the search for food.

Semipalmated Sandpiper

There was a small group of sandpipers moving around the beach in the morning sun. This one didn’t move with the rest of the group and decided to hop around on the rocks instead.
