It was around the same time Dave and I met that I begged my parents to take me to the first Cottars concert. I sat in middle rows promising to some day play fiddle like (spoiler: didn’t happen).

Over the years, Rose and I have stayed in each other’s orbit. She was one of Dad’s absolute favourite people to collaborate with on stage, and I carry his love for her incredible light and talent forward. She is remarkable.

As I perched on the edge of the stage at the album release, I had flashbacks to all of the times we’d share space- those music halls and venues, the green room at Celtic Colours and even in conversations carried out in rooms where she wasn’t present to hear the way so many people talk about her with a gorgeous degree of reverence.

I’m so proud of my friend Dave and I’m so proud of my friend Rose, and to see the music they create together is the kind of luck and gratitude I’ll carry with me forever. Thank you for bringing us your music. 💫

I’m going to wax poetic in ways I don’t normally do here on this photo page.

I met somewhere between the ages of 7 and 9 years old. It may have even been before that. Dad had the good fortune of collaborating with a plethora of musical giants, but Dave carried a special place in my young heart. Softness and kindness radiated from him like gentle light. They still do. And when he sings, the world holds still. I’ve admired and respected him through many seasons of my life, and so to be sitting stage side as he introduced his latest work to the enraptured crowd at was a special degree of magic. Add in and, as my sweet uncle says, you have “the answer”.

I’m so proud of my friend Dave- not just for what he creates but for how he moves through this world. Onward and in song, sir. ♥️
