Annapolis River Canoe Journal.
Today, June 2, 2026 I have completed my canoe journey exploring the Annapolis River from Palmer Road in Aylesford to the Causeway at Annapolis Royal. I still have a few stories to tell and a few ghost towns to explore but the goal to promote canoeing this great river is complete.

Based on my finds along the Annapolis River early aboiteaux were carved out of logs and many were put into the banks near the high tide mark. After the war, the Canadian government realized the importance of our farmland. Dragline ditches were cut out of the D***s and larger aboiteaux were constructed. In this video, we see evidence of the newer 1950s and the old style aboiteaux side-by-side.

We think this Red Tail Hawk was hunting for Seagull eggs or chicks because he was being dive bombed by the Seagulls. They didn't seem to like him in their nesting area. Blue Rocks, Nova Scotia. ( If you have never been to Blue Rocks maybe add it to your day trip list. )

Happy Wild Apple Blossom Weekend. If you are looking for the rich pinks in the flower check out some wild apple trees.

It is common to see Osprey along the coast of Nova Scotia looking after their young on power poles this time of year. If the fishing is good Osprey will be nearby even around some fresh water lakes. You will not find many nest in the upper Bay of Fundy where the muddy water prevents them from seeing the fish from the air.
